Bookreport “Charlie and the chocolate factory”
Writer:

Road Dahl

Main character:

Charlie Bucket is the main character of this book. Other important people in this story are the father, mother, grandfather and grandmother of Charlie, Willie Wonka, Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregardt, Veruca Salt and Mike Teavee.

Summary:

Charlie Bucket lives with his grandparents and his parents in a small wooden house on the edge of a great town. They are very poor. Near their house is the chocolate factory of Willie Wonka. Charlie’s granddad Joe knows a lot about the factory and tells Charlie often stories about the factory. On a day Willie Wonka said in the newspaper that five children could visit the factory. In five normal chocolate bars are golden tickets, who finds them can visit the factory.
Charlie likes chocolate and he gets every year one when it’s his birthday. This year he also gets one, he went to the shop and bought a chocolate bar but there wasn’t a golden ticket in. Then he walked home and he found a ten-euro note, he picked it up and walked back to the shop. He bought still one chocolate bar but it has also no golden ticket, he bought still one and what was in the chocolate bar? There was a golden ticket in it!!! Charlie has found the last ticket. The other finders were Augustus Gloop, eating was his hobby, Violet Beauregarde, who was addicted to gum but put that away for some chocolate, Veruca Salt, his father had bought all the bars he could find for his daughter, and Mike Teavee, he was very spoiled.
Charlie goes with his granddad Joe to the factory. It was a big happening and a lot of people from the news. The doors opened and all kids walked with his parents into the factory. It was very big, they followed Willie Wonka and they came into a room that was called chocolate room. It was a big valley with a river of chocolate, there were people at work but no normal people but Oompa-Loompa’s, there were from Oompa-Loompaland. August wanted to eat some chocolate from the river, Willie Wonka and his parents said he mustn’t do that, but he still do it and he falls in the river. He should come out anywhere safely.
The other people went further on a boat in the river. They went to the most important room of the factory, the invent room. There were big bubbling pots and there was a big machine. Willie Wonka turned the machine on and after a bit of groaning it became a little grey bar. It was gum which you eat a whole menu. Violet (who was addicted to gum) has to taste it but it wasn’t good yet so she became as a swollen blueberry. The Oompa-Loompa’s brings her to the pressroom where the blueberry should press out.
The other people leave that room and goes to a hall with a lot of rooms of products that Willie Wonka has made. The go further to a nut room with a lot of squirrels. Veruca wants to have one but they were not for sale. She tried to get one but the squirrels jump all on Veruca and pushed her into a trap. Her mother tried to save her but the squirrels also put Veruca’s mother into the trap.
There were two people left now, Mike Teavee and Charlie. Because Mike was tired they took the lift. It was a very strange lift; both the children should press one button to go to a room. Mike did choose the button with “television chocolate” and they went to a big, white room where you can put chocolate, also people, in the television. When Mike saw that he went to the camera and he would send in the television. The Oompa-Loompa’s take them out of the television.
Only Charlie was left now, but what Charlie doesn’t know is that he had won. They came in the lift and fly to their home. Willie Wonka asked Charlie if he liked his chocolate, Charlie said, of course, yes. Willie Wonka was very happy and he gave the factory to Charlie, who can live there also. The lift landed in the house from Charlie and everyone shocked. First the ladies don’t want to leave their house but Charlie and granddad Joe pushed the bed in the lift and they fly back to the factory where they are going to live.

My opinion:

I like this book very much because it was very fun to read. It was not too difficult but also not very simple. I can everyone advise this book.

Best veel grammatica fouten; de verleden tijd en de tegenwoordige tijd kan niet in 1 zin: 'Joe pushed the bed in the lift and they flew back ... ' i.p.v: 'and they fly back'
