C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe, published by HarperCollins, New York 2000, (first publishment 1950), 189 pages

The lion is Aslan, the saviour of Narnia. The Witch is the White Witch, who put a curse of the land. And the Wardrobe is the wardrobe the children use to enter Narnia.

The story has Christian inspirations, where Aslan is Jesus, and the Witch is Satan.

C.S. Lewis wrote over 30 books, which have been translated into over 30 languages, under which are the 7 Chronicles of Narnia.

It is a fantasy novel, but there’s also action and adventure in it.

It’s 1940 and because of the war (WW2), the four Pevensie children, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are evacuated to the land house of Professor Kirke. Whilst playing hide-and-seek, Lucy finds a wardrobe and hides in it. There she discovers that it's an entrance to a snowy world. She then encounters a faun named Mr. Tumnus who she follows to his home. Tumnus explains that she is in Narnia, and the evil White Witch has put a curse of the land for it to be winter for eternally. Lucy then leaves Narnia. Later she returns, now being followed by Edmund who encounters the White Witch, unaware of the harm she caused. The White Witch tricks him into believing she is very nice, and asks him to bring his siblings, next time he comes to Narnia. When Edmund and Lucy go back to the real world, Lucy tells Susan and Peter about Narnia, but Edmund lies and says they just made things up. Later they all hide in the wardrobe when Peter and Susan discover Narnia is real and they apologize to Lucy. They meet two talking beavers who tell them that Tumnus has been captured and Aslan is to return. Edmund sneaks away during dinner to go to the Witch’s castle, where he tells the Witch his siblings are at the beavers' house and the Witch sends here wolves out to find them. The wolves are unsuccessful, allowing the children to safely reach Aslan's camp with the help of the beavers. Aslan, a majestic lion, reassures the children and prepares them for the upcoming battle against the White Witch. Meanwhile, Edmund regrets his betrayal and is rescued by Aslan's forces. The Witch demands Edmund's life as her rightful prisoner, but Aslan offers himself in Edmund's place. Aslan is killed on the Stone Table but resurrects himself using Ancient Magic, breaking the Witch's spell. With Aslan leading them, the Pevensies defeat the White Witch and are crowned as Kings and Queens of Narnia.

It starts in the real world, and then continues in the fantasy world of Narnia

They spent around a week at Professor Kirke’s house, and they lived as kings and queens in Narnia for 15 years.

The story is fully chronological. The main point to address here is that time in Narnia passes quicker than in our world so a year in Narnia would be equal to just a minute on Earth.

An open end, since the story of Narnia hasn't ended yet. And there have been written 6 more books about Narnia after this one.

The main characters are the 4 children, and they all show braveness when they need to.

There is the storyline of the real world and they storyline of Narnia.

Omniscient narrator; “Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy.”
