Summon up
The story is about Hans, Otto, Karl and Elsa. The story begins when the three boys are standing at the bank of a river. It was the first day of the holidays. They wanted to do something in the holidays. Hans was fourteen years old, Hans and Otto were thirteen years old. So they asked him for some good ideas. He said that they could go to the forests on a river, with a boat. Hans and Otto liked the idea, because the forests were big, and it was the perfect place for an adventure. Otto’s uncle had a boat. Otto thought that they could borrow it. So they went to the house of his uncle. It was an old, but good boat. They could have the boat of his uncle, but they had to paint it, and mend the holes. They were going to leave on Monday. When they came back the next morning, Otto’s cousin Elsa was there too. She wanted to help. While Elsa was painting the boat, the boys were talking about the things they need. They went home after that. But Elsa came back. She took the paddles from the boat and hid them under some leaves.
It was Monday morning, Hans was the first boy who arrived. Then the Karl came to. They put the boat in the water. Then Otto and Elsa came. Otto said that they couldn’t leave without her, because she hid the paddles. Then they promised her that she could come too. She took her stuff too, and they went into the boat.
After an hour they got hungry. But Hans forgot to bring the matches. Elsa had some with her and gave them to Hans. Then they suddenly heard a noise. It was from an airplane. They didn’t knew what the plane was doing there. After eating they went into the boat again.
They wanted to go too Theo’s house. Theo was the warden of the forest. He was a good friend of Hans’ father. Suddenly Elsa shouted: “STOP THE BOAT!!!!”. There was a very big tree across the bridge. So Karl went into the water and they lifted the boat over the tree. After that they went to a place in the forest, and they slept there. Theo’s house was too far.
The next morning they went in the boat again. After a while they reached the house. But at the bank of the river, was a big motorboat. It wasn’t Theo’s. Elsa stayed in the boat. Otto went into the forests. Hans an Karl went to Theo’s house. There was coming black smoke out of the chimney. Then they heard the sound of an engine… it was from the plane. They hid behind some trees. The plain flew a couple of circles around the house. Then two men came out of the house, one of them had a flag. He waved three times with it, and then the pilot dropped something out of the plane, it was round, like a bag. Karl knew the black smoke was for the pilot, so he could know where the house was. The boys wanted to go back to the boat, but two men behind them caught them. They were prisoners!
In the house was a fat man, in good clothes. He said he was from the town, and he borrowed Theo’s house for vacations. He said the bag was filled with his letters. But the boys didn’t believe him. Then they heard a man beat on a door and he kept screaming that they had to let him go. It was Theo. The fat man told two of his men to lock the boys, and look for other people.
Otto saw the two men bringing Hans and Karl into the house. He waited for them to come out, but they didn’t. He knew they were in trouble. When he ran back to the boat he fell down, because his foot got in a hole. He told Elsa what he saw, and he went into the wardens boat to get help. She stayed there in bushes. She took her bag out of the boat. Later two men came and took the boat with them. She went to the house in the night. No one could see here there now, because it was dark. In the cellar Hans and Karl sat and they were tired. Then they heard Elsa. She went trough a little window, and was in the house. The cellar was locked, but the room of Theo wasn’t. She went in. He told her to let him be there, and that there were keys in an old hut. One of them was from the cellar. She went to the hut, and found the keys. She gave the keys to the boys, and they escaped. Everyone in the house was asleep. Then they escaped.
Otto was in the boat. His leg was still hurting. But after a while there were rocks in the water. He stopped and slept. The next morning he woke up, and he pulled himself to the boat, because his foot was hurting a lot. In the boat he was getting really dizzy. He closed his eyes and fell asleep. When he woke up, he lost his paddle. He was calling for help, but no one could hear him. After a while he reached a small village. A man there pulled him to the bank of the river, and he called a doctor, because Otto was really sick. The doctor came and helped Otto. While Otto was sleeping, the doctor gave him a medicine, there was a storm. After a lot of rest, Otto told him the story of the men, that took Hans and Karl into the house. The doctor said he would tell the policeman of the village, and a couple of men. They couldn’t call with the phone, because the storm has broken the telephone lines. But the doctor had a motorboat, so they went with the boat of the doctor the next morning. The doctor gave Otto a medicine so he would sleep.

Hans, Karl and Elsa were hiding in the bushes all night. Elsa wanted to get her bag in the morning. The bag was near the motorboat of the fat man. But there was a man on the boat. He was cleaning it. After an hour, he was done, but then he sat on the bank and rested. Suddenly a man ran out of the house to the boat. He ran to the boat. The man from the house said that they had to find the children, because they escaped. The two men went down a path near the bank of the river. Hans got the bag, they ate, and after that they slept. It was night when they wake up. They went to the bank, because it was raining. They couldn’t sleep anymore. After a while walking on the bank, they saw a boat. Otto said to the doctor that the kids in there were his friends. They picked the kids up and went further, to the house. The doctor had a plan. Because they couldn’t get into the house, the men had to come out. Karl and Hans had to call the men, and run into the forest. The policeman and another man would wait there and get the men that where running after Hans and Karl. The two men will leave the door open, and then the doctor and the other three men will go into the house and free Theo and get the fat man.
They did the plan. But the fat man escaped, and the doctor wanted to went after him, but the boys said that there was a tree, and he couldn’t pass it. After a little while the fat man came back. He had a bag with him. There were boxes in the bag. In every box were a couple of diamonds. But there weren’t that much diamonds. So the fat man was a smuggler. But the doctor didn’t understand why they only had a couple of diamonds.
They freed Theo, and he told his story. The fat man wanted to hire the house for a week, but Theo didn’t do it. Then the fat man let two of his men lock Theo. It was Friday, and the men came a week ago. So the pilot had to drop the diamonds today. Now the doctor understands it. The first days everyone would think the pilot stole the plane, and they would look through the plane, and they wouldn’t find anything. But the last day, no one would look, because they think the pilot is a good man. And he could drop the diamonds easy.
The plane was reaching after a while. Hans told the doctor to take the flag and go outside, and wave the flag 3 times. The doctor took a man with him, and they did it. But the plane came nearer. The pilot saw the faces of the doctor, and he didn’t drop anything. He flew back. The doctor went in the house again. Suddenly they heard the engine of the plain again. The plain was about to crash. The pilot tried to land, but he was going too fast, and he crashed into a couple of trees. The doctor went to the plane, and took the pilot out of the plain, and he also found the diamonds. He took the pilot in the house and took care of him. After a two hours he came back. He looked tired. Then he told Hans to open the bag. It had like two hundred diamonds!! The doctor stayed all day there, to help. The next morning the policeman led the prisoners too the boat, and two other men carried the pilot. The children would stay there, just to help Theo.
My opinion
I think that the first characters were good, but it was a bit unrealistic, that a couple of children can escape from a smugglers gang. I liked Hans the most, because he was the ‘leader’ of them, and he had some good ideas.
The story was about four children that go into the forests on a boat, and they get in trouble. It’s not really my type of book, because I like scary books, and books that are magical and fiction.
I think the story was made up, because it is not impossible that four children can catch a good organised smugglers gang. I like story’s that don’t have a good end, or ‘to be continued…’ story’s.
The story was told through the eyes of the storyteller.
The story wasn’t going fast at all, I think the writer was explaining too much. I think the story was boring, because it was predictable. I already knew what was going to happen.
