Monster van Loch Ness

My talk is about the monster of Loch Ness The lake Loch Ness Loch Ness is a part of the Great Glenn and it’s one of Europe’s great lakes. And it is by all odds the most mysterious lakes in the world. The lake is in the middle of Scotland, in the area of Highland. (plaatje 1) The lake is about 40km long and 1,5km wide and at some places it’s 230m deep. The lake is one of the largest and deepest lakes in Scotland. It’s 15m above sea level. The water in the lake is coming from 8 different rivers and 40 smaller streams. The area around the lake is a beautiful, rugged mountain and forests and fields surround it. The neighbourhood of Loch Ness The area around the lake is very beautiful with roughly and steep mountains. And with a forested bank. In the neighbourhood of the lake there is a ruin from a castle called Urquhart Castle. That ruins is 800 years old. The castle was one of the biggest castles in Scotland. In 1692 the castle was destroyed. The lookout of the ruins is one of the most visited tourist places in Scotland. Every day there are coming hundreds of people to this place. (plaatje 2) In the neighbourhood of the lake are another 2 famous forts. Fort August and Fort William, they are both on the southward of the lake. Near the lake is a memorial stone for John Cobb, who died in 1952 on the lake. Because he wanted to be the fasted man of the world. That’s why he went very fast with a boat on the water. Before he died on the lake he had a speed of 331 km an hour.
The monster Some people claim that there is already more than 1000 years a monster in the lake: the Monster of Loch Ness. People call the monster Nessie. About different observations, the monster is 6 meters long. He has a long neck, a small head and some bulges on his back. (plaatje 3) Nobody is sure that Nessie is alive. Some people say that the creature is a monster but others say it’s a prehistorically reptile. For example a plesiosaurus. Those animals lived from 205 until 65 million years ago. Scientists, who believe the monster is really alive, gave him a Latin name: Nessitera Rhombopteryx. The observations of the monster From 565 there are thousand observations of people who think the saw Nessie. But in 1933 the rumour that there was a monster in the lake came in the journal. The modern story starts when miss en mister McKay came back to their house in Drumnadorchit by Loch Ness. This was in 1933. They saw an enormous creature in the water. They said that it looks like a whale. This was the begin that people really know that there was a monster in the lake. There are many photos from the monster or the creature of Loch Ness. The first photo was made in 1933. One of the famous was the second photo ever made, by a London’s doctor Colonel Robert Kenneth Wilson. After that there are still many other photo made but they are not so sharp. There was also a man who made a very sharp photo. But a year before his dead he said that the photo wasn’t real. Because it was an doll which he puts himself in the water. (plaatje 4)The most photos came from visitors of the lake. There are a lot of people who said that they have seen the monster. One of them was Bill Kinder; he saw the monster in April 1996. He said: “it was a shining black thing what I saw, it looks like the skin of a seal. I didn’t saw a head, but it could only to be what the people called the monster of Loch Ness. He saw a ten meters long line in the water. He did drive slower and saw a black thing what was coming above the water level. At first he thought that it was a rock but it wasn’t and he thought it was the monster. Robert Rines made a picture were you could see the flipper of the beast in 1974. If it’s real they don’t know. In the car behind Bill were sitting Yurong Ling from London with his wife and a friend. They saw a long line in the water too and two bulges. Yurong said that he couldn’t say exactly what it was. But it could possibly that it was a boat. An experiment explained that there wasn’t any boat on the lake. In 1960 pilot Tim Dansdale made a video of Nessie. On the video you can see a moving thing in the water. (plaatje 5) Some people are searching many years for the monster; one of them is Robert Rines. He searches since 1972 to Nessie. He never had a clear photo but on one of his underwater photos you can see a fin of an animal. Maybe it’s Nessie. There were in 1933 people who wanted to see Nessie. They made a cage for the monster to catch him. Nobody can say it’s the true. But why is it so hard to discover the true? 1>The lake is very deep The lake is a lot deeper then the North Sea. The lake is about 132m deep, but at some places 230m. 30 years ago some one discovered that in the middle of the lake there is a canyon of 260m deep! 2> The water is dirty because the water comes from 8 different rivers and 40 smaller streams. The bottom is covered with thick layer of mud. And you can’t see much in the lake
3> It is hard to take pictures there is a good view from the North site. But then you have a strong reflection. The steep sites of the lake make it hard to get near the water. 4>The monster disappears quickly. Nessie always is seen only for a view minutes. Small noises can frighten him, before you can make a good picture he’s gone. My opinion is that Nessie really lives in the lake. But nobody knows the true to day. Scientists are still searching for the real Nessie. It will never prove we think. This is my talk. Are there any questions??? I hope you’ve learned something about Nessie.
