9. Summary: Fitzherbert lives with his mother on a farm. He is an only child. He is shunned by the other goslings, because his feet are bigger and his neck is longer. Some day his mum told him that he is a swoose. She had a romantic liaison with a white swan, by the River. So one day Fitzherbert decided to go down to the river by himself. He paddled about in the midstream, looking up at the sky, hoping that a snow-white shape would come gliding down to greet him. But when he met some swans they where not friendly and Fitzherbert swam hastily away from his pursuers. He swam on, looking around him with interest. A little later he met a water-vole. His name was Alph. Alph told him that he was swimming on the Thames not far from Windsor castle. In Windsor castle lives Queen Victoria. She didn’t laugh since the death of her husband Prince Albert. When she see Fitzherbert for the first time there came a smile on here face. And everyone in the castle was happy. Fitzherbert got a good live in Windsor castle he visits regular Alph and for the night he had a friend too, a black rat, his name was Maharanee. Some day there is a new French chef in the kitchen and he wants to Fitzherbert eat. He has a big knife. And when he saw Fitzherbert he’s going after him whit the knife. Fitzherbert runs to the Queen and she thought Fitzherbert wanted to protect her. From now on for the rest of his life he was called Sir Swoose. 1. The Title of the book is ‘The Swoose’. 2. The Genre is a short story. 3. The Author is Dick King-Smith. 4. The story take place in England round 1900. 5. The Point of view is 3rd person narrator. 6. The major character is Fitzherbert. He is the Swoose. 7. The Minor characters are Fitzherbert’s mum, Alph the water-vole, Maharanee, the black rat and Queen Victoria. 8. The Theme’s are animals and friendship. 10. My own opinion • I like the book very much because it is very funny and not to difficult to read it. • I learn from it because I don’t know much English words and now I learn some words because I head to look for them in my own dictionary. • I find the best part of the book when Fitzherbert met the water-vole, Alph on the Thames and that he became friends. • I think the message is: When you are different you also can make friends. • Yes I recommend this book to other pupils because it is a story over animals and friendship. And it is very funny and I don’t love boring books.
