Title: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Author: R. L. Stevenson
MY FIRST IMPRESSION
When I saw the book, I thought: ‘that’s nice!’ Then I started reading and I thought: ‘that’s boring!’ The first part was very boring and I really thought: ‘do I have to read this?’ It was very difficult to say to myself that I had to go on reading this book. Later it became more interesting and I was happy that I read further. DID THE BOOK COME UP TO MY EXPECTATIONS? To be honest, not really. That’s because I thought this was a very nice and famous book. Famous it is, that’s true. But if it’s nice? I don’t know! The book I read before this one, ‘The hooded man’, was nicer. But that’s what I think. Maybe there are other people who think this book is better, but I think ‘The hooded man’ was better. Because ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ is a very famous book, I expected more of it, I think. I thought this book was one of the best English books in the world! I expected too much of it. But in general, the book had some nice parts in it. Sometimes I didn’t want to put the book down, because I was curious. I was curious about the things which would happen now. I wanted to read further. So, the book didn’t came up to my expectations, but in general it was a nice book! SUMMARY
The three most important persons in this book are Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde and Mr. Utterson. Mr. Hyde is someone who’s very evil. He kills people who are innocent, he just kills people for fun. Mr. Utterson, a lawyer, was trying to solve a will. This will was going about the cruel Mr. Hyde. He wrote the will, and he wanted to get money if Dr. Jekyll had died. He wrote the will, but Dr. Jekyll never disappeared. Dr. Jekyll showed the letters, to Mr. Utterson. These letters were written in an odd handwriting. Something strange was going on, because Mr. Utterson saw Mr. Hyde going to the laboratory of Dr. Jekyll. It was the first time he saw him, and Mr. Hyde had the key of the door. It was the door at the back of the laboratory. Mr. Utterson new that Mr. Hyde had the key, because Dr. Jekyll told him. Mr. Utterson waited there. He knew he would met Mr. Hyde at the door. There was something strange, because Dr. Jekyll was at the entrance of the laboratory. Utterson found it out later. It was strange, because Mr. Hyde did like there was something secret. He did very mysterious. Poole, a kind of servant from Dr. Jekyll, lives in the house too. He also thought that not everything was going very well. There was something strange. Dr. Jekyll didn’t seem to be himself. He asked for a lot of very good salt, that was a very strange thing. Also his voice didn’t sound like the voice of Dr. Jekyll. Poole asked Utterson to help him, because he couldn’t handle it on his one. Utterson helped him. Poole had to be very quiet. He only could ask Dr. Jekyll if Utterson could come in, but the answer was no. Utterson also heard that this voice wasn’t the voice of Dr. Jekyll. They decide to unlock the door. When the door was open, they saw Mr. Hyde laying on the ground. They thought Mr. Hyde had murdered Dr. Jekyll, but when they found the letters, they found something out: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were the same persons. Or, actually, they were one person. Dr. Jekyll was Mr. Hyde, and Mr. Hyde was Dr. Jekyll. This was very strange. They found out that Dr. Jekyll wanted to make a special drink. With this kind of drink, you could change into another person. It was very difficult to make this drink. When it finally was finished, he tried it, and it worked. He could choose if he wanted to be a bad person or a good person. He decided to be a bad person, because Dr. Jekyll was already a very good person, and if you was a bad person, you could do everything you wanted. He was able tot turn himself into Mr. Hyde, he only had to drink something. If he was Mr. Hyde, the bad person, an he wanted to be a good person again, he could change himself into Dr. Jekyll. That was very handy, but after a long time, when he had drunken too much of the drink, he couldn’t return to Dr. Jekyll, himself, anymore. That’s the reason why he was in the laboratory every day and night. He didn’t come out of it anymore. When Poole and Utterson had found him, he had poisoned himself. That was because he would stay Mr. Hyde for the rest of his life, and that was something he didn’t want. The police would catch him, and he would go into jail. He decided not to wait, and killed himself. CHARACTERS

Mr. Hyde
Mr. Hyde doesn’t care for other people. He also is a murderer. It’s a very cruel man who only cares about himself. If you cross his way, you have to be very
careful, otherwise he’ll kill you! You have to stay out of his business. Dr. Jekyll
Dr. Jekyll is a very nice man with a lot of (good) ideas. He’s has two sides of him; a good side and a bad side. His bad side is that he’s Mr. Hyde, the cruel guy. But his good side is Dr. Jekyll himself. The nice man who’s always very kind to other people. He wants to reach something in his life. That’s were he lives for. He’s a very rich man. He has his one laboratory, where he works. Mr. Utterson
Mr. Utterson is a lawyer. He’s always there for other people. He’s very kind to them. He always wants to help them and is very smart.
