‘The secret diary of Adrian Mole’ is a funny journal of a teenager who believes he’s an undiscovered intellectual and who believes in love.
Adrian Mole is 13 and ¾ when he starts to write in his diary. He has problems like any other teenager: his parents, spots on his face, girls,…

When Pandora comes to his school, he’s immediately in love with her. But she’s in love with Nigel, Adrian’s best friend. Adrian won’t talk to Nigel anymore, he’s furious.

Adrian joins a group at school called the Good Samaritans. They go out in the community helping. He is been put in the old pensioners group. He has to help a man called Bert Baxter. He’s eighty-nine. At first Bert is unfriendly and tough. But after a couple of weeks, they get to know eachother better and they become good friends.

When the neighbours of Adrian, Mr and Mrs Lucas, are getting a divorce, Adrain’s mother comforts Mr Lucas. At first she did it as a friend, as his neighbour. But afterwards, there is a romance between the two of them. And that’s the start of all the rows between Adrian’s father and mother. At the end, they decide to split up. Adrian’s mother, Pauline, is going to move out of the house to live with Mr lucas in Sheffield. Adrian is very angry with his mother and especially with Mr Lucas. He decides to never go to her.
Adrian’ father can’t deal with the fact his wife has left him and starts to drink and smoke. He loses his job and isn’t capable to pay the bills. One time, they even cut the electricity line because they don’t pay the bill.

After a while, Adrian is going to his mother in Sheffield after all. But he can’t stand Mr Lucas being around her and kissing her all the time.
In the meanwhile, Adrian’s father met a lady, Doreen Slater. Adrian calles her the ‘stick insect’ because she’s so skinny. She also has a son, Maxwell.

Adrian is very happy when he hears that Nigel and Pandora broke up. But not long after that happens, Pandora is going out with Craig Thomas. He’s one of the ‘big guys’ from school. Someone you don’t want to have trouble with.

One day, Adrian wears red socks for school, which is totally forbidden, because it’s too revolutionary. So he starts a sock protest in school. Pandora and his other friends join him. They all wear red socks for school. But they loose the protest.

Because of his brave action with the socks, Pandora is fallen in love with Adrian. His dream comes true, Adrian is the happiest boy on earth. He spent all day with her.
During holidays, Pandora has to go on a trip to Tunesia with her parents. But she do calls Adrian and writes a postcard to him. When she is back, they are more in love than before.

Adrian’s mother sents a letter to ask him if he is going to join her and Mr Lucas to a trip to Scotland. At first he refuses, but afterwards he decide to join them. His father seemed happy, because now, he can be alone with Doreen. Adrian promises Pandora to stay true.
In Scotland, he visits a lot of touristic places and he buys some souvenirs. He also tell his mother about the situations his father and him are into: his father is on the dole, doesn’t even search for another job, can’t pay the bills anymore and one day his grandmother even paid the bill for the electricity. Because off all the misery, Adrian’s mother decides to come back home. She left Mr Lucas and finds herself a new job.

Now, Adrian and his reuniend family can try to be a normal one after all…
