Message in a bottle door Nicholas Sparks

Theresa Osbourne is a 36 year old single mother who works for the Boston times as a columnist.One day when she is vacationing at Cape Cod with her editor , who's also her best friends and when she goess running Theresa finds a bottle washed up on the beach.There is a letter in it and it's written by a man called Garett and it's dedicated to his late wife Catherine.Theresa is so moved by it and talks about it with her editor.They decide to print the letter in her column.The response to this article is overwhelming , she receives lots of good comments and messages including letters from other people who have found similar letters written by Garett.Theresa wants to meet this Garett and she finds him in North Carolina where he is still struggling with his wife's death.Theresa and Garett meet and fall in love , but he has no idea about her knowledge of the letters.
Theresa spend some time in NC with Garrett but after a while she has to go back because her work is waiting.They travel back and forth but can't get used to the other place.Garett doesn't like to be in the big city , and Theresa doesn't wanna live in a small town.This gives some tensions in their relationship.
Another fact is that Garett isn't really over his wife's death yet.He still thinks about her a lot and the letters are a kind of goodbye to her.But Theresa sometimes doubts about his love for her.She doesn't wanna be a replacement for Catherine and she doesn't wanne be compared with her.When she is in NC they are arguing about this and it ends up with a fight and she goes back to Boston.Garett has a good chat about this with his father and he decides that he really cares about Theresa and wants to spend the rest of his lifes with her.So he takes the first plane to Boston to explain his love.
Once he's there they talk about this and they make up.Garett is walking around in Theresa's flat and suddenly his eye catches something on her desk.He goes closer to see what it is and then he sees the letters...the letters he had written a long time ago and trown in the sea.He had never expected to see them again and now they were laying there on his girlfriend's desk !!He confronts her with this and says she only used him for a story and that he doesn't know who she is anymore.She is trying to explain that her curiosity for the man who wrote those wonderful letters really changed into love , but he leaves Boston and goes back to NC in anger.
Theresa goes after him and when she arrives in Noth Caronlina , in his house , Garretts father tells her that Garett has gone out sailing.But the weather is really bad , there is a storm and it's already night so it's dangerous to go sailing at that time and both Theresa as Garett's father are a bit afraid and decide to wait together.
In the meanwhile Garett has written one more letter to Catherine.In that letter he tells her what happend lately and that he fell in love again and wanna be with Theresa for the rest of his life , although he left her.Garette goes far into the Atlantic Ocean and once he dropped the bottle it's hard to go back because of the storm.His boat crashes , and they find Garetts body washed up on the beach the next day.
