Book report – Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire

The book is made by J.K. Rowling.

The book has 636 pages.

4. Who are the main characters? Describe them briefly (character and appearance).
The main characters are Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. They are friends of each other.

- Harry Potter is a student at Hogwarts: the school of wizards. He isn’t very tall, has black hair and a scar on his forehead in the shape of a lightning. He’s very smart, but most of the other pupils do not like him.

- Hermione Granger is also a student at Howarts. She has got red hair and very large teeth. She’s a bit ugly, but very smart, too. She is a muggle*

- Ron Weasley is the son of a very import wizard and is also student at Hogwarts. Ron is the tallest of all and has red hair, too. He is a bit jealous and sometimes a bit silly.

There are a lot of other wizards who play an important role in this book, like Albus Dumbledore, Mad-eye Moody and Sirius Black. But there are too much of them too mention them all.

5. Where does the story take place?
The story takes place in England, but I don’t know the exact place, because in the book it’s also a secret were Hogwarts is located.

6. When does the story take place? How do you know?
I think the story takes place in the present, but I don’t know for sure, because there are no dates in the book. The book was released in 2000, so I think it’s the 20th or 21st century.

7.. Give your opinion on the book and explain what you liked or disliked about it.
I really liked to read this book, because this book is completely different from the books which I normally read. The only disadvantage was that there were a lot of strange, witch-like words in the text. The names are also different from the names in the Dutch version, which can be confusing sometimes, too. But the way J.K. Rowling writes is very special. This book contains 636 pages and I’ve read it in only 2 weeks!

8. Give a short summary.
This story begins in Hogwarts, where Harry Potter and a lot of other students begin with a new year at the school of wizardry. This year won’t be a normal year for Harry Potter: there are some rumours that Lord Voldemort is going to gain power again. And this year there will be a Triwizard Tournament. That’s a very important, but also dangerous tournament at which three schools compete. This year it will be Hogwarts, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. From each school only 1 student may participate. The students are chosen by the Goblet of Fire. This goblet chooses the best one of each school.

When Harry Potter entered Hogwarts at the beginning of the year he felt his scar hurting again. He worried about this and wrote a letter to his godfather Sirius Black. And Harry was right, because on that moment Lord Voldemort was busy again with murdering muggles. But there were more strange things going on: there was a new teacher at Hogwarts, called Mad-eye Moody. He was called like this, because he was a freak! His left eye was replaced by a magical eye, and he had a wooden leg. Despite this, he seemed to be a nice and really smart teacher.

Only a few weeks after school had begun they heard the big news: There would be a Triwizard Tournament, but only 5th year students or older could enter. This was a pity for Harry and his friends, because they were 4th year students. But, when Dumbledore announced who the 3 champions would be, the Goblet of Fire suddenly spit a 4th name: Harry Potter. Everyone was surprised, but the judges decided to let him participate, too. Harry and the other champions didn’t have a lot of troubles with the first 2 tasks, but the 3rd task was the last, so also most difficult and dangerous task. The 4 champions had to go into a maze and find the trophy, but there were a lot of obstacles in their way. Harry and Cedric were at exactly the same time by the trophy and touched it. It seemed to be a portkey and they were directly send to Voldemort. Voldemort killed Cedric and duelled with Harry. Surprisingly, Harry won! A miracle, because Voldemort is the most powerful wizard in the world and he can kill everybody, except Harry. Harry returned to Hogwarts again and he won the 1000 galleons, but he gave a part of it to the parents of Cedric and the other part to Ron. In the very end, they discovered that Mad-eye Moody ensured that Harry and Voldemort would fight together, so Mad-eye Moody was arrested.
