Explaining the title
The main character Alice says several times in the story she wants to be a social worker and help children with their drug problem. If you want to know something. You can go ask Alice.

Theme
The main theme in the story is the drug addiction of Alice and how she handle it. But there is also talk about sexual abuse, loneliness, uncertainty.

Summary
Alice is a 15 year old teenage girl. She has problems with her weight. She thinks she is fat, but in fact she isn't. When her father gets a new job, she likes to move to an another town. During the summer holidays gets invited to a party. At their she gets tricked into taking LSD. After all she liked it very much, but don't know what she is doing.  The relationship between Alice and her parents are worse.. Alice falls in love with Richie, a dealer at the party. She began dealing drugs for Richie. After a while she was for the first time Clean, But the drug-users at her school do not leave Alice Alone. Chris started to take drugs again and Alice did too, they cannot resist it anymore. In Coos bay Oregon she sleeps in a park and gets food from social workers. Alice gets very confused by being high whole day long; she does not know the date, she does not know the year, she does not know anything anymore. After a while she promised again not take drugs anymore. This is the moment she feel very self-confidant.. Alice has hallucinations. She feels that she gets eated by worms and maggots. After a while she was baby-sitting and she ate some candy. But someone had put an overdose of drugs in it. Alice totally 'tripped'. The neighbors called the police and locked Alice in a closet. When they took her out Alice had ripped off some of her hair and had badly injured by trying to get off the worms and maggots in her hallucination. At the end she is take to a mental hospital. She is afraid and does not like the atmosphere and the people, she wants to get out as quick as possible. She went on vacation with her family, but she missed Joel very much. She felt that she really was growing up and decided grown ups don't keep dairies. It seemed like a happy ending. Alice was finally happy with herself and finally saw the joy of life. But in fact Alice died three weeks by an overdose of drugs. Nobody knows exactly what happened and nobody knows exactly why it happened.

Main Characters
Beth Baum - A Jewish girl . They first real friend
Bill - A boy that gave Alice drugs and stoled her virginity.
Chris - A boy that Alice meets at the boutique and offered her a job and drugs.
Richie - A boy she had meet in the party, he is also a dealer.Ted - The friend of Chris, also a dealer. Alice began dealing drugs for Richie. Alice and Chris find out Richi and Ted ( the boyfriend of Chris ) just used them to deal drugs for them. Both of them run away to San Francisco. Before Alice leaves she writes a note to her parents and to the police about the dealers
Joel- A boy that Alice meet at the library. Just before the summer holidays Alice tells Joel she had been using drugs and he is very understanding, just like Alice hoped him to be.

Opinion
A great story and especially a sad book. A young healthy girl starts using drugs and because it's written in a dairy format, you have actually no idea what is going to happen. At least i didn't expect that she will die, buy she did.
