Chapter 1
After a long time Sadie and Kevin meet again. They haven't seen each other for three years. They talk about the last few years and about their family. They make an appointment to go to the top of Cave Hill. On their way to the bus they see Linda. Linda is very curious about Kevin and when she goes home she tells her mum about her, but Sadie and Kevin don’t mind that.

Chapter 2
Mrs. Jackson is worried about Sadie because she doesn't come home for dinner. When Linda goes to the Jackson's she says that she saw Sadie with a Catholic boy, Kevin.  Mr. and Mrs. Jackson got very worried about their daughter going with Kevin. But Tommy is angry at Linda because she said that to his parents.

Chapter 3
Kevin’s mother is also worried because Kevin isn’t home yet. Then their uncle, Albert McCoy, is visiting the family and Brede is visiting her friend Kate Kelly. They go outside because the kids are messing with the British soldiers. On the street she mets Brian Rafferty, an old friend of Kevin.


Chapter 4
After they had been on Cave Hill Sadie and Kevin go to a café. Sadie sees two girls working also on the hat department. At first they say that Kevin is handsome, but when they hear that he's Catholic they leave at once. They get into a disagreement about their religions. Kevin suggests that he should bring her home.

Chapter 5
When the movie finished Tommy and Linda go to a café. They see Steve there. He says he just joined the Lodge and asks Tommy why he doesn't join the Lodge with them as well. But Tommy has his own reasons for not joining. When Tommy and Linda leave the café they see Kevin and Sadie. When Sadie comes home she gets a lecture from her dad and mum, but she doesn’t care.

Chapter 6
When Kevin comes home Brede asks him where he’s been. He tells the truth but Brede doesn’t like it. In the morning when he’s walking to Mr. Kelly's for work he sees Brian. Brian says he has to talk with him. When Kevin comes home after work Brian is waiting for him. After dinner Kevin follows him to Brian's house. Brian shows Kevin a box of ammunition and Kevin is shocked. Brain asks him to join his group. Kevin won’t and he leaves the house.

Chapter 7
Sadie and Kevin went to Bangor. They had a picnic and after that they went to a café. Then they go to the beach and talk about their lives. At first it was just a normal conversation, but after a while it became an argument. Kevin leaves her and Sadie stays on the beach until it starts to rain. Kevin came back for her and they ran to a shelter. They kiss for the first time. It was getting late and they hurried to the bus, but they were too late and the last bus had already left. So they tried to get a lift and they get one from Uncle Albert.

Chapter 8
Uncle Albert gives them a lift but the car breaks down, so they had to walk. When they approached Belfast they passed some soldiers. They let them through and they also hear from them that a military car has been blown up.  As when they walk on they pass a burning shop. Uncle Albert leaves them when Kevin brings Sadie home. Then they see three people coming up the street.


Chapter 9
The three people are Mr. Jackson, Tommy and Mr. Mullet. They want to fight Kevin because he went out with Sadie. When two other men approach Kevin runs to his own house. When he is almost home he meets Brian. Brian asks where Kevin has been all day, but Kevin won’t say it. The next day he meets Sadie again. When they go home again Kevin is whistling. But around the corner there is danger for him.

Chapter 10
Brede goes to Sadie to speak with her about her relationship with Kevin. She doesn’t know the way exactly, so she goes into a shop. Mrs. Mullet is also there and she says that she will walk with Brede to the house of the Jackson's. When she meets up Sadie they go to a café. Brede says to her that it will be better if she doesn’t meet Kevin again. Sadie doesn’t know what to do now.

Chapter 11
Kevin waits for Sadie but she doesn’t come. A man says to him that he could bring him home. While they are walking away Sadie arrives. The man brings Kevin and Sadie to a place where they can talk. They go to Mr. Blake’s house and when they are there Mr. Blake calls a doctor.

Chapter 12
Sadie and Mr. Blake bring Kevin home. They will meet each other on Friday. Sadie lost her job in the hat department. Mrs. McConkey’s shop is going up in flames. Mrs. McConkey is dead and her husband has not been found.

Chapter 13
Sadie gets a new job in which she is going to work for Mr. Blake. She is happy that she can work there and she works very hard. When she goes out with the dog Jack, she met Moira, Mr. Blake’s neighbour. Sadie is now a nanny.

Chapter 14
Kevin isn’t allowed to work this week. Mrs. McCoy had a baby. Sadie is talking with her Aunt May about her work with Mr. Blake. Sadie had a little fight in the bar. In Kevin’s streets there where soldiers who checked all the houses.


Chapter 15
The soldiers come they think that the box with Brian's gun has been placed in the scrap yard.  When he came home in the morning he went out and his parents and Brede are worried about him. They don’t know if Kevin had put the gun in the scrap yard.

Chapter 16
Mr. Blake receives a threatening letter. Kevin had a fight with Brian. Mr Blake speaks with Sadie about the fight between Kevin and Brian. Somebody wrote “a traitor lives here” on a wall. Kevin, Sadie and Mr. Blake went out for a day, but on the road an accident happens.

Chapter 17
Everyone is a little bit shocked over the accident. The police think it wasn’t an accident because all the wheels came off. Kevin lost his job and he thought that he shouldn't see Sadie anymore.

Chapter 18
Mr McCoy goes with his wife to Tyrone, where she can rest. Brede has to take care of everything at home.  Kevin and Sadie are drinking a cup of coffee at Mr. Blake's when he says that he might leave Belfast. That would be better. Sadie isn’t happy with his plan.
Mr Kelly asks Kevin if he wants his job back, but Kevin isn’t interested.

Chapter 19
Mike Henderson tells Kevin and Sadie that Mr Blake died because of a bomb placed in his house. They know that it was because of their relationship and their visits to house. Kevin tells Sadie that he wants to leave Belfast next week.

Chapter 20
Kevin is leaving. It hurts him to leave his family and Sadie behind. When he arrives at the ship he sees that Sadie is there too. She has decided to go with him. They leave on the boat to start a new life together in London.

- Mrs McConkey: She is the owner of a small shop.
- Bill Mullet: He's Linda’s father. He is a member of the Lodge like Mr Jackson.
- Jessie Mullet: She is Linda’s mother. She always gossips about everyone.
- Linda Mullet: She is Tommy’s girlfriend for a while. She is an old schoolfriend of Sadie and they live in the same street.

- Kate Kelly: She is the daughter of Kevin’s boss. She likes Kevin very much but he doesn't like her.

- Brede McCoy: Kevin’s sister. She works in a nursery.
- Gerald McCoy: He is one of Kevin’s brothers and sisters.
- Kevin McCoy: Brede’s brother, Sadie’s boyfriend. He has a lot of brothers and sisters.
- Mary McCoy: Kevin and Brede’s mother. She is pregnant with her ninth child.
- Pete McCoy: Kevin and Brede’s father.
- Patsy McCoy: Albert’s wife.
- Brian Rafferty: An old friend of Kevin. Kevin doesn't like him anymore because he’s a bit criminal.
- Pat Rafferty: Brian’s father.

eww, I didn't like the book review was boaring and a bad way for other students like me, because they cheat and say that they read the book but really they haven't. Then when we have to an essay, people don't know what to write because they didn't read the book, they just read the review. Its not helpful if you don't write a proper review with a lot more detail.
