The story takes place in the United States of America in the stat North Carolina. The story is set in a small ville called Beaufort . It’s located on the coast near Morehead City. The setting is in Beaufort.

No, the story begins to tell when the man (who’s telling the story) is fifty-seven years old. I guess that must be in the year 1998. I know that because he’s going back 40 years earlier. He goes back to 1958.. the story ,which Landon is telling so when he was seventeen, is told in about 5 months I guess. He starts telling in the end of October and the story ends at the 12th of April.

The story is told by a guy named Landon Carter. He tells his story from 40 years back, when he was seventeen years old.

6) Characterisation

Landon Carter:
Landon Carter is one of the main characters. He also is the storyteller. Landon is a seventeen-year-old boy who is fallen in love with a girl in his town. He tells his story when he is fifty-seven and goes back to the time when he was seventeen. Landon is a normal guy with many friends and a well-loving mother. His father is often away from home and he can’t get along with him.
Jamie Sullivan:
She is the girl Landon falls in love with. She is a very strange religious girl. Well strange isn’t the right word, maybe odd fits better. Lots of people think she’s weird. Landon thought that to until he got to know Jamie better. Jamie has got brown hair tied up in a bun. Sometimes (at special occasions) she let them hang down on her shoulder. She always carries a bible with her. During lunch she reads her bible all the time, even when she already read the part.
Hegbert:
He is the father of Jamie. He is a reverend and very religious to. No one likes him very much and he is being seen as a weirdo to, just like Jamie. He is an old-fashioned guy. He loves his daughter very, very much though. And when she gets sick he is very concerned about her.

7) Character development

Actually there is, a lot of people change in face of Jamie. At first Landon finds out that he likes Jamie a lot. You even can say they loved each other very much. So Landon had more respect for Jamie than he had before. He used to think she was weird to. Landon’s friends and all the kids at school had more respect for Jamie when Jamie told them she was sick and dying. Everyone changed a bit, because finally everyone got respect for all the things Jamie used to do. Herbert also changes, first he didn’t like Landon and later he had more respect for Landon to.

8) Genre

It’s a Drama and a love story. It’s drama because a lot is changing in their lives in a bad way, she dies, and you’ll cry your eyes out. It’s a tragic story, so I think that would be Drama. It’s also a love story because the two people love each other very much until death separates them. Though Jamie dies in the end the two of them get married.

9) Theme

That must be love; mainly it’s al about their love story, how they got together and how their relation ends. Lost is a theme to because Jamie dies in the end and Landon lost her. That stipulates the story. Sickness, Jamie gets very sick (deadly) so sickness that’s also a deciding point in the story. Happiness, because although it all goes wrong at the end, Jamie and Landon had a lot of fun together.

10) Personal Opinion

I liked the book very much. It was recommended by my sister. She read it when she was in the United States. When I visited her in February, she told me how beautiful the book was. So I ordered it online. In May I started read the book. It took me 2 and a half day to read the book. At first I thought it would took me 2 weeks before I finished, but it was such a wonderful book and it reads very fast. Now it belongs to one of my favorites. I like it so much because of the storyline, first you think everything is allright and everything is so sweet between Landon and Jamie. Later you’ll cry about it because of Jamie’s sickness. Although Jamie dies in the end, the end is so sad and happy together.

11) SUMMARY

The story started when Landon was at the age of 57. He goes back to the time when he was 17 years old. Landon Carter was a popular boy at school who had many friends. He decided to join the drama-group because else he had to choose science which was even more bad than drama. Jamie was a religion girl, daughter of the reverence. She was kind of dull, wore her hair always in a bun same as she always wore the same clothes, she had no friends and she was always carrying the holy bible with her. She did a lot of voluntary work like caring for the orphans. She also joined Drama class. She had a very close relationship with her father. Her father also wrote this years play and he wanted Jamie to play the role of the angel. It had to be perfect this year. When prom came up Landon hadn’t got a date and he ended up with Jamie. They went together and to Landon the whole evening was very boring. He still didn’t like Jamie. When Landon got into trouble with his ex-girlfriend Jamie stood up for him. 2 days later she asked Landon to help her with the orphans. He couldn’t say no to her because she helped him at the prom night. So Landon helped her with the orphans. At the end of the day she asked Landon to play the main character in the school play. She asked it in such a sweet way and Landon knew her father wanted it to be perfect so he promised to play the role. He still didn’t like her back than. They practiced lines together and Landon got to know her better now. Then the play came up and when Jamie appeared on stage she was so beautiful with her hair hanging loosely on her shoulders (not in a bun) and a pretty white dress, Landon stood there with his mouth hanging open and said his lines “you are beautiful” and for the first time he meant what he said. After that Landon’s feelings for Jamie changed. He didn’t mind to hang out with her anymore. And at Christmas eve she asked him to come along with her to the orphans to give them Christmas presents. Than when they sat there under the Christmas tree she gave him her holy bible which she got from her mother who passed away when she was a little girl. After this evening Landon wanted to do something for/with Jamie, so he asked her out for diner at new year’s eve. They had a great time and when they walked home they kissed each other for the first time. That same night Jamie told Landon she was dying because she had cancer. Than the tragic story came up. They both were so in love with each other and Landon couldn’t live without her. She once told Landon getting married was her only goal. So Landon asked her to marry him. She said yes and they got married as soon as possible. When she walked into the church, to the altar, she had a very hard time because she was almost running out of strength that was a walk to remember…
