Good morning, I am the hostess of the McDonald’s restaurant in Meerkerk. My job is to be friendly and helpful to guests so they enjoy their visit at our McDonald’s restaurant. I am the “business cart” at our restaurant. People came to me with questions and complaints and then it is my job to solve them or to help them with their questions.
Today I am here to tell you something about the company McDonald’s and about the restaurant in Meerkerk.
First I am going to tell you something about the history of McDonald’s. After that I will tell you something about the products of Mc Donald’s. Then I will tell you something about Mc Donald’s and on which way they help to clean the environment of the restaurants.

After the part about the company, I will tell you something about the different kind of work you can do at Mc Donald’s. I hope you enjoy my story.

History of Mc Donald’s
In 1954 Ray Kroc discovered a little restaurant owned by the brothers McDonald’s in San Bernadino, California. Kroc realized quickly that this restaurant had a big future. On the fifteenth of April, 1955 the first McDonald's restaurant opened in Des Plaines.
30 years ago McDonald’s opened his first Dutch restaurant in Zaandam. After this first restaurant in Zaandam there followed 200 other McDonald’s restaurants all over the Netherlands.

Products of Mc Donald’s
Through the years McDonald’s has come up with a lot of new products. In 1986 the Happy Meal was introduced. Meant for children,  there was a toy in it, French fries and a hamburger or chicken McNuggets. In 1987 McDonalds unveiled the Quarter Pounder, this is a sandwich with a big piece of meat, onions, ketchup and pickles. In 1988 McDonald’s became healthy and introduced the salads. One with chicken, one with tuna and the healthiest salad was the natural one. In 1991 introduce McDonald’s the McChicken, which is a sandwich with lettuce, sauce and a chicken patty. In 1993 they introduced a sandwich which was meant for the vegetarians, its name was the Groentenburger, In 1998 the complete breakfast-a hot drink, an orange, a egg McMuffin and a croissant-is introduced. In 1999 McDonalds developed the McKroket, which is only obtainable in Holland. And at last in 2000 the Mcflurry. This is the old and unhealthy assortment of McDonald’s. In May 2004 McDonald’s introduced a totally new and a more healthy assortment, which was named Salad Plus. McDonald’s began to sell four kind of Meal Salads. This means you only have to eat one Meal Salad. They also introduced a new sandwich, a yoghurt and two different kind of fruits. A lot people wants to eat healthy and so they choose for the Salad and a water. At this moment you can really eat healthy at McDonald’s. It is a big success in the Netherlands.

Environment and Mc Donald’s
Mc Donald’s has a lot of rules. One of them is to take into consdieration the environment. They try to keep the environment of the restaurant so clean as possible. Today I will give you three examples of how McDonald’s helps to keep the environment so clean as possible.
I begin with the restaurants, both inside and outside. The restaurants of McDonald’s are hospitable places. This is one of our most important viewpoints. Every restaurant you visit has to been clean. One of the employees is responsible all day for the garbage in the restaurant and outside of the restaurant. He also has to clean the tables and sweep the floor.
Then McDonald’s tries to separate the different kinds of garbage. McDonald’s tries to separate paper, glass, plastic and footrests. Also McDonald’s uses recycled materials for 70% to 100% of their packaging and other items.

At last Mc Donald’s controls the oil in which the French Fries are cooked very well and extensively. Another company picks up the barrels of used oil.

Different kind of stations.
In this restaurants you have many kind of stations. You can help people at the counter and help people in the McDrive. You can cook hamburgers at the grill or you can cook food in the oil. You can make salads or yoghurts. And at last you can clean up the restaurant. The manager decides were your place is. You have busy times and quiet times. When it is busy there are thirty people at work. When it is quiet I think there are fifteen people at work. It is the goal to help the people as soon as possible and deliver them hot and good products.
