Our lecture concerns the Bengal Tiger.
We have chosen this animal because we find the Bengal Tiger an interesting animal. In addition, there was a lot of information about him.

Before I tell you something about the Bengal Tiger, I would like to give you some more back ground information on the Tiger in general.

The tiger is a mammal, he belongs to the section vertebrate, and to the order of the carnivore. His family is cat-like.

Most Tigers have an orange coat with dark brown or black stripes, no one knows exactly why tigers are striped, but scientists think that the stripes act as camouflage, and help Tigers to hide from their prey.
Tigers that live in cold climates, for example the Siberian tiger, have a thicker coat than tigers that live in warm climates.

Unlike some big cats like lions, adult tigers like to live alone
(except for mother tiger with cubs) This is partly because in the forest, a single Tiger can sneak up and surprise its prey better than a group of Tigers can.

Wild Tigers can eat as much as 40 pounds of meat at one time. After eating a lot, they often do not eat again for several days. Unlike wild tigers which kill their prey and then gorge, tigers that live in zoos eat a prepared diet of horse meat and vitamins daily. They may eat as much as 10 pounds of meat per day.

The weight of a male tiger is between 100 and 200 kilograms.
The weight of a female tiger is around 90 kilograms.

The life span of tigers in the wild is thought to be about
10 to 15 years.
Tigers in zoos live to be between 16 and 20 years old.

Now I would like to tell you something about the Bengal Tiger.

The Bengal Tiger lives in Bangladesh or the state of West Bengal in India.

He has an average length, from head to tail, of 3 meters.
The shoulder height is average 91 centimeters.

The coat of the Bengal Tiger is orange with dark lines, in the zoo these colors are striking, but the wild they are a perfect camouflage.
The only white-colored tigers that have ever been seen in the wild are Bengal Tigers. No sightings of wild white tigers have been reported since the 1950’s.

The teeth of a Bengal Tiger of vital for there existence, With its sharp canines he can catch easily a prey and tear these apart.
If the Tiger loses his teeth due to old age or a fight, he will surly die because he is not able to catch a prey anymore.

As well as most cat-like the Bengal Tiger runs with withdrawn clutches.
These are put away in a skin fold so that they keep sharp.

These were the outer marks of the Bengal Tiger.
Now I give the word to……
