Pirates of the Caribbean: The curse of the black pearl. A damn good movie. One of the best I’ve seen in 2003. This movie made me laugh, and it really pulled me in. It’s directed by Gore Verbinski, who also made some other movies like: The Ring, The Ritual, Mousehunt… He is a winner of 4 Clio awards and one Cannes. For Pirates of the Caribbean he won a Saturn award for the best director (USA). And also in 2004 he won an Amanda for the best feature film (Norway). I went to see it with 4 other friends. I've always loved the legends of pirates, and I love adventure. I saw it once. Bought the DVD. Then I saw it twice. I just can’t get enough of this movie. It was so well done. Johnny Depp was hilarious, he played Jack Sparrow, and acted like a true Pirate. His obsessive drinking antics, and his walk really brought me to laugh. He is a character we could all love and enjoy. Geoffrey Rush played Barbossa the bad guy. I loved the way how he manipulated people. Keira Knightley plays Elizabeth, the governor's daughter. Prisoner of the Pirates. She’s quite pretty, and the movie is a great jump for her ever growing popularity. Orlando Bloom plays Will Turner. A simple blacksmith, who is also a well trained swordsman. He’s the hero who want to save Elizabeth from the Pirates. The story is based on Pirates who happen to be cursed, and they want to rid the curse. To do that they need the blood of a pirate, not just any pirate but the son of Bill Turner- William Turner. Mistaken for Bill Turner's child the pirates Capture Elizabeth, and take her hostage, while William teams up with a rogue pirate, Jack Sparrow, who is on revenge against Barbossa. While all at the same time are being chased by the British fleet. I was a huge fan of The Pirates of the Caribbean long before the movie, so I was very nervous--would the movie do justice to the attraction? Or would it be another stinky pirate movie? The first time I saw it, though, I knew it would be a hit. The casting was perfect, the music spectacular, the special effects, the story line, it was just a perfect movie. It's great fun, making you laugh, gasp, hold your breath, cheer, and sigh, and it appeals to all ages. It's truly a movie that everyone involved can be proud of. Pirates of the Caribbean is an adventure movie. Well played sword fighting. Great laughs. Great story, great music. And Pirates are back in my good book.
