The reason why I have chosen this subject is because I visited the city a couple of years ago. And I thought that’s a interesting place to talk about.

NEW YORK CITY

New York has 8 million inhabitants so it is number 3.for your information has Amsterdam has 800.000 inhabitants. New york is built on 3 islands the most famous island is Manhattan which also a neighbourhood (PHOTO). The other is Long island with te neighbourhood Queens and the 3th is Brooklyn.

HISTORY

In 1662 crose a group Dutch people the Atlantic ocean. They crose the river Hudson and came out in Manhatten. When de Dutch people came in Manhatten was it from the Indians. The dutch people bought Manhatten for 25 dollars . What you can buy now for 25 dollars is only 5 square centimeters. New Amsterdam was the new name. New Amsterdam had at that time only 1000 inhabitants. Broadway was one of the most important streets of New Amsterdam. In 1664 crose English people the Atlantic ocean to take over New Amsterdam. They did not give money to the Dutch people but they gave the land Suriname.

FAMOUS BUILDINGS AND PLACES

The Statue of Liberty (PHOTO)

The statue was unveiled in 1885. It was a gift from the French Government to demonstrate the friendship between both nations. It is a island sow you must go with a boat yo visit it. The boat trip can be a very nice few but the time when I was on the boat it was thundering sow it was a bit of scared. Before you can go on the boat there are very strict security rules. Almost the same rules as when you go with the plane. This is because the statue of liberty has to be protected very well against terrorism, the reason is the 11th of September.

The Empire State Building

The building is 102 floors high, that's about 200 meters. It was ready in 1931. By that time it was twice the normal height of a skyscraper. Since the opening 17 people died by falling from the building. Nowadays it is a very hot touristic attraction to view over hole Manhattan. There is always a long cue to go with the elevator. (PHOTO)

The Chrysler Building. (PHOTO)

This skyscraper is famous because of its iron point and it is one of the best known skyscrapers with a beautiful architecture. It was built for the owner of the car-factory of Chrysler.
And at that time 1930 it was the highest building in the world.

Times Square (PHOTO)

This square is brightly lit by neon-tubes at night-time and is well visited by theatre visitors. It is also a meeting place for special events, like the championship of the New York Yankees, the baseball club. There is a lot of entertainment. Cinemas , operas , musicals and a lot of shoppingmalls. Because of all the people over there at night New York is famous as the city that never sleeps.

The central park (PHOTO)

Everyone who thinks it is to busy in the city goes to the central park. The central park is a very large park as big as Oldenzaal. There is a big fountain. You can relax in the central park. You can make a walking tour in the central park. You see a lot of people who are jogging and biking in the park. They have to go in one direction otherwise they will collapse.

The Twin Towers = GROUND ZERO (PHOTO)

As you all know on the 11th of September 200 the Twin Towers were hidden by two planes. Now there is the place “ground zero” as a tourist attraction were everybody can think about the terrorism. There are already plans for new buildings.
