Dilan: Our presentation is about Naomi Campbell, a British top model and actress. She is forty-one years old and she lives in Hollywood.

Career

Demi:  Naomi’s birthfather left her mother when she was two months old. Her mother, Valerie Campbell,  has never told her his name and he was unnamed on the birth certificate.

On her seventh Naomi was asked to play in Bob Marley’s music video: “Is This Love?” and on her twelfth she was tap-dancing in the music video: “I’ll tumble for ya” from Culture Club.

When Naomi was fifteen she was discovered by a scout from Elite Model when she was walking down the street with her friends. Three years later she was the first black model on the cover of the French Magazine Vogue. She is the first and only model that has ever been on the cover of ‘Time Magazine’. In 1991 Naomi danced with Micheal Jackson in his music video ‘the Closet’.

Film and Fashion

Dilan: Since Naomi was young, she appeared in a couple of films. On her sixth she played in her first film The Chiffy Kids. After that, she played in Girl 6, Prisoner of Love and Flat Slags.

Of course, Naomi is best known as a model. In 1999, she opened a design house, called The Design House of Naomi Campbell. So far, Campbell has created seven perfumes for women, mostly released in Europe. She modeled for famous designers like Versace, Ralph Lauren and Dolce and Gabbana. Her mentors were Karl Lagerfield, Gianni Versace, Alexander McQueen and many more. Naomi is contracted at IMG Models, Storm Model Management, D’ Management Group and Marilyn. In the early nineties she was one of the six most famous models. The other five were Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer and Christy Turlington.

Personal Life

Demi: Naomi has never married. She shortly dated Usher in 2004. She has a relationship with the Russian Vladimir Donin. He’s officially still married, but he and his wife have been living separated for years. In 1994, Naomi’s novel “Swan” came out. It’s about her past, where she was being blackmailed over her dark secrets. The novel was actually ghostwritten by Caroline Upcher. Most people think Naomi is a real bitch. She hits her assistants, throws people down the stairs and has spitten on a cop at London’s Heathrow Airport because they lost her suitcase. Naomi has hit her assistant a couple of times. She got very angry on her because she booked the wrong hairdresser. The assistant told she had been head-butt, lip-bitten, thrown on the floor by her hair and hit by a Blackberry. Of course, she quit. Naomi was convicted and she had to do community service. She had to mop floors in New York’s Department for Sanitation. Naomi also had a big fight with Tyra Banks because they both said there could be only one black model.

Charles Taylors blood diamond

Dilan: In 2010, Naomi was all over the news. She was in South Africa with Mia Farrow, a former fashion model. She said that Naomi had been given a large, uncut blood diamond from Charles Taylor. Charles is an ex-Liberian leader, and he was a dictator. When the ABC-News was asking her questions about this, she stormed out and hit the camera.On July 2010, Naomi had to come to court in Leidschendam. She had to give evidence on receiving a blood diamond. Naomi told them that she gave the diamond to Jeremy Ratcliffe for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, but they say they never received a diamond from Naomi or anyone else. However, the next day, Jeremy said he did receive the diamond but didn’t gave it to the Fund because he wanted to protect it from suspicion. Naomi wasn’t convicted.
