‘War of the worlds’
The film I recently saw (in the cinema) was ‘War of the worlds’. It’s a sci-fi by genre.
The man who directed the film is Steven Spielberg, you know him from famous movies like Jurassic park, Men in Black, Artificial Intelligence, Shrek and much much more to mention.
Those who starred in it are Tom Cruise, he plays Ray Ferrier he’s crane operator living in New Jersey. Then there’s Dakota Fanning, she plays Rachel his daughter and Justin Chatwin (Robbie), the son of Ray.
War of the Worlds is based on a novel from H.G. (Herbert George) Wells describes the fictional turn of the nineteenth century invasion of Earth by aliens, from Mars.
Wells was a firm supporter of the theory of evolution and saw every species as being engaged in a constant and often brutal struggle for survival. The Martian/mankind conflict in the book was portrayed as simply another of these struggles. The belief that there was intelligent life on Mars was popular at the time after the long straight lines observed on the planet by astronomers were thought to be canals.
It was set in Bayonne, New Jersey, Athens, New York City (Staten Island), Boston, Massachusetts, Naugatuck, Connecticut, Rockbridge County, Virginia, Brooklyn and parts of Los Angeles.
Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) is a working class man living in New Jersey. He's estranged from his family, his life isn't in order, and he's too caught up with himself. But the unthinkable and, ultimately, the unexpected happens to him in an extraordinary sense. His small town life is shaken violently by the arrival of destructive intruders: Aliens which have come en masse to destroy Earth. As they plow through the country in a wave of mass destruction and violence, Ray must come to the defense of his children. As the world must fend for itself by a new and very advanced enemy not of this world, its inhabitants must save humanity from a far greater force that threatens to destroy it.
In a way I find the film rather tremendously because, if you look to the special effects, they were just outstanding, but if you look at the movie itself, the story, it wasn’t good. Some things just don’t make sense (they eliminate one tripod and suddenly every tripod is dead!?)
I don’t recommend the movie, only if you love good one-liners and some spectacular special effects!
