The story is about an 18 year old American girl: Katey Miller, that moves to Havana just before the Cuban revolution in 1958 by Batista against Fidel Castro and his revolutionaries, with her parents (used to be professional dancers, but they don’t dance anymore now, Jeannie & Bert Miller) and little sister (Susie miller). They move because there father got an offer for a better and higher job.

Katey had in America much friends that she had to leave now, also was Katey on a ballet school, she knows how to do the foxtrot and other dances. She now had to leave all of this behind. So, it was normal that she was very angry at her dad. Her little sister Susie, didn’t care that she had to leave America. Katey; I could swear that girl can even survive in a war.


Then on the first day there she meets the son of her dad’s boss (James Phelps), an arrogant man. And she also meets Javier a poor Cuban waiter, in the hotel where she’s staying. Then the son of her dad’s boss James asks her out, to go to a dance club, and she says yes. But Javier ask her also out to go to a real Cuban dance club: La Rosa Negra, and first she goes to the dance club with the son of her dad’s boss, and later she goes with him to the Cuban dance club: La Rosa Negra, to feel the real Havana. There she dances the whole night with Javier and she loves it, they don’t dance the way she used to dance, but she likes the way of dancing. When the music stops she goes home with James with who she came, but in the car he wants to kiss her, but she don’t want to do that, but he pushes and she runs away to Javier, and Javier walks her home.

Then the next day she’s searching for Javier in the hotel, but she can’t find him and she hears that Javier is fired, because her sister and her friend saw Katey and Javier together and told this to the boss of the hotel, and the boss fired Javier because the staff is not aloud to go out with the guests. So, Katey goes to Javier’s home, and find out that Javier is working again for his gangster brother, he’s rebuilding stolen cars, and when there pretty and fast again they sell them.

And Katey decides to take part of a National dancing competition
with Javier, the price of this competition is: a trip to America and 1000 dollar. But when they practice Katey can’t let Javier lead. So, Javier says; When your ready to let me lead, come back and we will start to practice again, in till that time, you have to learn how to let another man lead you. And at the hotel, the hotel dance teacher Johnny Castle learns Katey how to let another person lead her. And she can go back to Javier, and start dancing again, and Javier and Katey get a relationship.
Then at the night of the first dancing competition, Katey and her family and also her dad’s boss’s family goes to the casino (where Katey is going to dance), not knowing that later that night Katey is going to take part in the dancing competition with an Cuban boy. Then when the music starts and the competition starts, Katey and Javier dance full of passion and kiss each other, and everyone that know Katey is in shock. After the competition they announce who is going to the final and Katey and Javier are one of them.
Back at the hotel Katey’s parents are very angry at Katey, they think that she is a bad model for there family. And her mom hit her. And Katey runs away from the hotel and everyone, and goes to Javier.
The next day she goes back to her parents and she has a conversation with her parents, and they say that the dancing was magical but they don’t approve Javier. Also they say that she has to do a double twist at the end of the dance, at the finals. And that they are going to support her, but not the boy.

Then a week later the Final dancing competition starts, and when Katey and Javier are dancing there starts a gun fight. And Katey and Javier run away, not knowing that this was the last night they spent together, because this night started the ending of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro and his revolutionaries won the fight, and all the people of other country’s have to go back to there own country. So, Kathy and her family have to go back to America. Kathy and Javier are not happy about this, and on the very last day Kathy and Javier are the “King and Queen” at the Cuban dance club; La Rosa Negra. And Katey’s parents also go along and dance the same as the Cuban people do.

Katey and Javier knew this won’t be there last dance!

- This story is based on a true story, the story of producer Joann Jansen, that moved in 1958 with her family to Cuba. So, this story really happened to her.

Diego Luna Alexander (Javier Saurez):
Born in Mexico City, 29 December 1979. Also played in; The terminal, Vampires: Los Muertos. Diego had to learn dance in 6 weeks, 8 hours a day, before dirty dancing he had no dance experience. His mother Fiona Alexander died in a car accident when he was 2 years old. His father was a man in the entertainment business, so Diego started acting when he was just 5 years old. The movie that made him really famous was Vampires: Los Muertos, as staring along side Bon Jovi.


John Slattery (Katey’s dad, Bert Miller):
Born in Boston, 13 August 1963. Also played in; Mona Lisa smile, Bad Company.

Jonathan Jackson (son of Katey’s dad boss, James Phelps):
Born in Orlando, 11 May 1982. Also played in; On the edge, insomnia.

Patrick Swayze (Dance teacher, Johnny Castle):
Born in Houston, 18 August 1952. Also played in Dirty dancing 1, Ghost.

Romola Sadie Garai (Katey Miller):
Born in London, 1 July 1982. Also Played in; Vanity Fair, Perfect. Before the movie dirty dancing started, Romola had no dance experience, she had to learn it in 6 weeks, 8 hours a day, in Puerto Rico. Her mother Janet is a journalist, and her dad Adrian a banker. She has also a younger sister Roxy, and an older brother Ralph and sister Rosie. But Ralph and Rosie were adopted by here parents before she and Roxy were born.
Romola used to sing in a jazz band, but fell in love with acting in 1999.

She’s born in London but lived in Hong Kong and Singapore in till she was 10 years old, after that she lived in London again.

Sela Ward (Katey’s mom, Jeannie Miller):
Born in Mississippi, 11 July 1956. Also played in; The day after tomorrow, Runaway bride.

Mika Boorem (Katey’s sister, Susie Miller):
