A new citizen came to Eastwick, called Darryl van Horne. He was a rich, middle aged man who bought the biggest house in Eastwick, called “ The Lenox Mansion.”
Eastwick also was the place where three female friends lived, and ofcourse they had heard the news of an older man taking his place in the Lenox Manse.
These three women, called Alexandra Spofford, Jane Smart and Sukie Rougemont, were all devorced, and ofcourse, interested in men. Sukie, who worked for the newspaper “The Word,” interviewed Darryl van Horne, not only to meet him, also for the people who lived in Eastick to know what new person came to Eastwick, who seemed to be rich enough to afford the Lenox Manse. Because Sukie likes to talk, she told Darryl everything about her two friends, Alexandra and Jane. By seeing Darryl’s piano, she told him Jane played the cello and the piano, so they might play together. Darryl said he would like to meet Alexandra and Jane, so he invited Jane to come play the piano, and Alexandra to come drink a cup of tea.
The two friends both take the invitation and meet Darryl. After these first meetings they talk about Darryl at one of their houses. All the three women are really fond of Darryl, and wonder who he would like the most. A few days pass, and again the three women receive an invitation of Darryl to come and have a drink. Ofcourse they accept it and drive to Darryl’s place. When they arrive, Darryl asks if they’d like to play tennis. Jane would, and so Alexandra and Sukie can enjoy the sight of seeing Darryl in action. That night, they drink cocktails and have a bath together in Darryl’s swimmingpool. A few days later, Sukie and Darryl are having lunch. Sukie tells Darryl that she is having an affair with a man named Clyde Gabriel, but the problem is that he is married to Felicia, who treats Clyde like a slave, however, he doesn’t leave her. Because Sukie doesn’t like it that she treats Clyde bad, she cast a spell out on Felicia, who is not enjoying the fact that there are feathers coming out of her mouth suddenly.
One night, when Felicia was out, Sukie was at Clyde’s place. Jennifer and Christopher, Clyde’s children, were already out of the house, so they were all alone. Ofcourse they talked about Felicia, about the quarrels they had.
After Sukie had left, and Felicia was home again, Clyde and Felicia again had quarrel. But this time, it was this worse, that Clyde knocked Felicia down with a fire-poker. Felicia died because of this. Clyde was shocked and afraid, he never meant to do this! Clyde finds no way out and commits suicide. When Sukie meets Jennifer, one of Clyde’s children, she invites her to come drink tea that evening at Darryl’s place, so she can get over the shock of losing her parents so suddenly. That evening, Jenny also brought her brother Chris. The three women and Darryl all feel very sorry for Jenny and Chris, and so they let them join their friends-circle. Darryl also asks Jenny to come work in his lab with him, because she knows a lot about science. Jenny and Chris had a tax-debt and so they had to sell their parents house. Darryl said they could move in his house, because there was no place to go else for them. After some time Jenny suddenly marries Darryl. Alexandra, Jane, and Sukie are shocked because they were very fond of Darryl, so they cast a spell out on Jennifer with a wax-voodoo doll. Alexandra doesn’t know for sure if this is such a good idea. Jenni calls Alexandra to ask what is going on with her because she doesn’t veel very well. This makes Alexandra afraid and feeling guilty. When the three woman talk to eachother at Sukie’s place, Alexandra says they should undo the spell, because Jennifer is dieing. Jane and Sukie don’t agree, it wasn’t their vault, and say it has got out of hand. But because Alexandra feels very guilty, she goes searching for the wax voodoo-doll together with Sukie. They find it, but it is too late. A few days later, Jennifer dies. Darryl and Chris leave Eastwick because of this, and go to New York. The Witches all find a husband and leave Eastwick as well.
