Description of the principal persons:
- Dave Slatin: - It´s the first time that David came in Woodend. A week after he visit in Woodend, buy he a house of women who´s gone dead a number of weeks ago. It’s the first shop in Woodend. But a number off years ago was there to a shop in Woodend. Soon the shop was busy en he needed an assistant.
- Anna: The new assistant in The Corner Shop. She started work in late January.
- Peter: He’s a friend of Anna. He helped Anna and Dave sometimes at the shop. In May, he asked Anna to marry him. She said yes. They planned to get married in the following year.
- Greta Gordon: She’s the first Special Order customer. Dave Slatin helps her to get a role in Beautiful Woman. She get the role. But before the role in Beautiful Woman she must pay Dave Slatin a beautiful diamond ring.
- Mike Bailey: He’s the second Special Order customer. Dave Slatin helps him to do with with a important footballgame. He allowed in the footballgame. But with the third goal he broke his neck. Before he allowed in the footballgame he must pay Dave Slatin a case.
- Arthur Riseman: He’s the third Special Order customer. Dave Slatin helps him that he could have a meeting with Vice Chairman of the I.C.S. (Internation Computer Services). Vice Chairman were killed in an airplane crash and Arthur Riseman survive the airplane crash. Now were Arthur Riseman the new Chairman of I.C.S.. Before he could have a meeting wit Vice Chairman he must pay Dave Slating a briefcase.
The Summary:
Dave Slatin came in Woodend. It is on Saturday, 31st October, 1964, late in the evening. He searching a hotel. But in Woodend isn’t a hotel. He can sleep for a night with Mrs Harrison (a citizen of Woodend). When the citizen came out of the church, Dave has gone. A number of weeks later, he came back. It was cold and dark. ‘Hello,’ he said to a citizen. ‘Perhaps you can help me, I’m looking for a house.’ The women looked surprised but she said that Mr. Smith had died in the summer. His house was empty. It was a house on a corner. A number off days lather, the young stranger arrived. He renovate the whole house. And at monday, 21st December had Dave Slatin the first shop in Woodend opened: THE CORNER SHOP Proprietor: Dave Slatin. The shop opened on Monday, 4th January, 1965. Soon the shop was busy and Dave needed an assistant. The new assistant in The Corner Shop was Anna. She started work in late January. Dave advertised in newspapers and the village products sold wel. People from Lidney (the village behind Woodend) came to The Corner Shop. Peter, a friend of Anna, will help her if it’s really busy.
There gone a number of monds over. And in April came into the shop a beautiful woman. She came before Dave. Anna was talking with her. And she said that she was Miss. Gordon, Miss. Greta Gordon. Anna was looking to the hand of Miss. Greta Gordon. She wearing a beautiful diamond ring. Than came Dave downstairs and Miss. Greta Gordon going with Dave with. A number of minutes later Miss. Greta Gorden come back alone and without her beautiful diamond ring. Anna question to Miss. Gordon if she maybe could help her. But there is nothing matther said Miss. Greta Gordon and she said to Anna that she never talk about her visit to the Corner Shop. She give Anna a photograph of her with a signature and than she’s going. A week later reading Anna the Film news and there she’s seeing Miss. Greta Gordon with really frequently positive news. She got a big part in Beautiful Women.
Their gone again a number of month over. And now came again a Special Order customer. It was Mike Bailey. He question to Dave Slatin and he had a case in his hands. When he came back of the conversation with Dave Slatin and his case were way. Mike want gone away from the shop but Anna said the he was something forgotten. His case. Mike give Anna a angry look and going out of the Cornershop.
Peter needed Anna before a night to see a football game and in the football field sees Anna Mike Baily standing. With the last goal happen an accident. Mike Bailey kicked the ball into the goal, but not into the goal, just in the neck of het keeper. The keeper broken his neck.
There gone again a number of months over. Now came again a Special Order customer. This times is it Arthur Riseman. He has a briefcase with him with the signatures A.R. I.C.S.. Arthur Riseman gone with Dave Slatin in the Special Order-room and he came back without briefcase. Anna said to Arthur Riseman: ‘Would you like to buy some home-made bread. Should I put the bread in your briefcase?’ Arthur Riseman looks too Anna and run the Cornershop out.
Anna was waiting for news of Artur Riseman. Because their too big news was about Miss. Greta Gordon and Mike Bailey. She wait and wait, but there isn’t anything what look like at big news about Arthur Riseman. She’s gone self searching for news, but she want to know first know wat I.C.S. be. She wrote a letter to Dave Slatin: ‘Dear Dave, Sorry I can’t come in today. I’m going to Lidney. I’m buying some things for my wedding. Regards, Anna.’ She did not tell the truth, but she did not care. She’s gone searching to the letters ‘I.C.S.’. Anna came at the station and their was waiting for her answer! I.C.S. means International Computer Services. She was happy! And she’s gonna look in a newspaper and their saw she news about Arthur Riseman. He was the new Chairman of I.C.S.. But the first Chairman was gonna dead in an airplane crash. He said that he was lucky to be alive.
Anna had now a answer and gonna back to the Corner shop. Dave wasn’t there, Anna opened the shop and she gonna try if the door from the Special Orders Room was closed or opened. It was opened! She look around and she find the diamonds ring from Miss. Greta Gordon, the case from Mike Bailey and the briefcase from Arthur Riseman. But too a lot of boxes, some old magazines and newspapers. Underneath, there were some dirty, old clothes. But underneath the clothes she discovered some money. She’s gonna searching further and suddenly she jumped. There was a noise behind her. Someone was standing at the door. It was Dave Slatin. He wasn’t angry but he want’s to marry with Anna. Anna don’t know what to do. But Dave Slatin explain everything and at Sunday, 31st October, was a terrible day. In the evening, at seven o’clock, people were running and shouting, ‘Fire! Fire! Fire! Fire! There’s a fire at the Corner Shop!’ Dave is in the house. Everyone saw him standing, the people said: ‘Jump! Save yourself.’ But Dave Slatin did not move. He laughing. No one ever saw him again. Anna was sick, the doctor came to her. Later he talk with Anna’s mother in the kitchen. Anna’s mothers going to Anna, but she was all to late. Anna was gonna dead.
My opinion:
This book was difficult but too a little bit easy. I’ve never have read a book that I completely understood. The persons were sometime difficult with their statements. I just like Anna, she’s a nice girl. And I never want to be Dave Slatin. With all his money items and thing before people fixed. It isn’t what for me. This was my first book report.
