Summary

2. The book begins with a chapter called Planet Blue and on this Blue planet lives Billie Crusoe. She is a woman who works for Enhancement Services. We learn that she lives on a planet called Orbus and this planet is dying. But luckily there is a new planet ‘Planet Blue’ where they all can go to. Billie has to interview a Robo Sapiens called Spike who went into space with a human crew and found Planet Blue. When Billie interviews Spike about her journey Spike asks Billie to help her escape. Billie says yes. But then Spike escapes without Billie’s help. And Billie is a suspect for the disappearance of Spike. Billie is warned by her boss Manfred which offers her a trip to Planet Blue to escape her problems at Orbus. Billie takes his offer and escapes with the spaceship. There she seem Spike again who was freed by captain Handsome ,who was on the first journey in search of Planet Blue with Spike, and a client of hers Pink who she met before. Then Billie hears that she was meant to be left at Planet Blue. Captain Handsome was ordered to deal with the dinosaurs on Planet Blue. He’s going to throw a meteorite at the planet in hope that the dinosaurs will die. When Billie is on the spaceship she falls in love with Spike. And when the meteorite goes bad and the other crewmembers are fleeing to the base she decides to stay behind with Spike. Together they try to climb higher where there is enough clean air and sun so Spike can recharge. They fail and they both die.

Easter Island

This is a story about a young sailor Billy Crusoe. Who accidentally is left behind on Easter Island. There he is watching how the local people are chopping down the last tree of the island. When he tries to get closer to see why they are doing this he is captured. They put him at their village. Then the tribe is attacked by the other tribe of the island. He tries to escape but almost drowns and gets saved by a European looking boy. Later this boy (Spikkers) explains that his farther was from Holland and he asks Billy how Amsterdam is. Billy wants to know why they are chopping down the trees. Spikkers explain that they use the wood to honour their stone gods. Spikkers is determined to get the first bird egg of a cliff so he is king of the island and will be able to stop the war and go to see Amsterdam. Spikkers gets the egg first but gets pouched of the cliff. And later on he dies.

Post-3 War

This part of the book tells us about a mother who has to leave her baby to get back with the man she wants to marry. The child is Billie Crusoe. She tells about her mother and how her mother was poor and had to leave her but could not do this without going back to take her back. But when she took Billie to the Adoption Society she couldn’t take her back. Then Billie goes to works at MORE-futures. Where she teaches Spike to know what humans are and to understand humans. Billie also tells Spike about World War 3 and how materialism was a cause of the war. Spike and Billie are chatting about what the world is and so on. The next day Billie is taking Spike for a walk. Spike is only a head so she has to be carried.

Wreck City

Billie takes Spike to wreck city where the people live who don’t want to fit in at Tech City. They choose to be outlaws. Billie and Spike go to a bar and meet the barman. A while later there is a group of Japanese who are from the International Peace Delegation who are going to give Aid and Sanitation. The delegation is then hijacked by a motor gang. The motor gang takes then hostages and in the commotion Billie looses Spike. She asks the barman where Spike went he says he doesn’t know. He decides to help Billie and tells her that a couple of girls probably took her with them. He tells her his name is Friday. She goes into a forest where she finds two children who look very bad. Then Friday finds her and tells her to get out of the woods it is radioactive. He tells her that the children are mutants and that there are more of them. They live in the woods. Then after a while Spike and Billie flee and find an old telescope they pick up a message but Spike can’t decode it. Then they see a party and go to it. They find an old man who tells them about the telescope and that he also had receipt those strange massages. The girls appear who took Spike, appear then and tell Billie to go to Friday he tells her that they are being attacked by MORE. Because of the Japanese delegation and because of Billie and Spike. Then the mutants get out of the forest and they fight with the MORE army. Billie flees back to the telescope and they receive the message again but now they understand it. It is a message from when Spike told on Orbus about Planet Blue. And in the pages of the story The Stone Gods which Billie found on the Tube it tells the story about her and Spike. She kisses Spike and head of into the fight she encounters two soldiers and when she approaches them they shoot her. And she dies

c. The story tells that people make the same mistakes over and over. But yet you see the characters change. In the beginning Billie was very sceptic about Spike but later on the become lovers. And she sees the way that people have destroyed Orbus. Spike obviously go’s from a Robo Sapiens who does not really understands people to a Robo Sapiens who feels like humans do and understands them and even falls in love with Billie.

6. a. It is a science fiction novel but also a book about our future and our past. Because the writer wants to warn the reader that we are destroying the planet and that we need to be careful with it. In part two there is the story of the people of Easter Island who destroy there island for their stone gods. And in the other stories there are traces of other civilisation. And they throw a big meteorite at the blue planet which destroys the dinosaurs like what happened on earth millions of years ago.

8. a. I liked the book though it is not a book I would normally read. But it was very different and interesting to think that live did exist before us.

b. I like Billie as a character she is on one hand very different than the world she lives in and of course the tings she goes through are very odd an unfamiliar but still she feels very familiar.
