Sue’s mum and dad are all dressed up and ready to go out. Babs is staying with Sue. Babs and Sue have a film to watch. Sue’s mun gives Sue a kiss and says goodbye. Sue’s dad is standing in the open door.
“Hurry up or we’ll be late!” he says.
As soon as the door shuts, Babs and Sue race to the telephone.
They ring Bob. All clear! Is the message. Just then Sue’s mum comes back.
“I’ve forgotten my back” she says. “Silly me. Who’s that on the phone?”
“Oh, wrong number” Sue says. Bob’s phoning Tim. Tim phones the others.
The girls are soon busy getting things ready. Bob and Tim arrive with their tapes and the fruit for the fruit salad. Bob starts organising the music. The tape-recorder is great. It’s got two tapes on it! Bob lay the tape-recorder on the window sill. Then people can dance in the garden, and anybody who wants to caht can sit in here and still hear the music.
When all is ready Sue ask: “How much time do we have?” “A minute of two..!” says Bob. Just then the doorbell goes, and a group of six school friends troops in. The music goes on.
The next half hour, the doorbell never stops ringin. Everyone is busy chatting and dancing and having a great time.
Ten Bab’s younger sister Kate come in. She says that she going to do some magic tricks. Everyone wants to know how she does it. She do some tricks, they are very good. But the trick with the tea-leaves in a glass of coke is not so successful. It ends up with about half a litre of the sticky liquid all over Tracey Bland’s long hair, and right down the front of her new mini-dress.
Everybody laughs, but Tracey is not amused and goes home early.
Ten minutes later everybody dancing the Conga.
Tim is swinging round. Oh no, he falls right on top of Sue’s dad’s price marrow.
SPLAT! “Oh no, not the marrow. Anything, but not the marrow...” Sue says.
“My dad go to kill me”. Al people leave the house.
Babs and Sue go to bed.
“Babs wake up!” Sue says. “My parents are home!” they’re look out the window and see that Sue’s dad look about his plant. Sue hears her parents’ voices in the kitchen, and then... “Susan! Get out of bed!” with every step downstairs, her heart thumps and her stomach sinks. She feels as sick as a dog.
“I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. It was just an accident. Really it was.”
Then she looks at her parents’ faces.
Her dad has a great big smile on his face. And her mun’s shoulders are shaking. “What are you laughing about?” Sue shouts. “Sorry love. We can’t help it.
You look so miseravle!” “But, but why aren’t you cross an...upset...about the...the...marrow? I mean, it’s the Show today and the marrow is ruined!”
“It’s OK ,Sue”says dad. Come on, sit down. Have a cup of tea, and give us a smile.
We knew about the party. Kate let it slip to her mum, but we thought you were clever enough to keep the mess outside. So we prestended that we didn’t know. I put my giant marrow in a suge palce in Mr Allinson’s shed down the road. Sue gives her dad a big kiss, and runs upstairs. She go to Babs. Sue’s dad win the Frist Price!!!

It’s a story about party’s. And I love party’s And the story isn’t childlike. That’s funny. It isn’t boring. There are funny pictures in the book.
