She first didn’t believe in Giants, but now she helps the BFG and Sophie to get the other Giants. Imagine you’re one of the characters, who would you like to be and why? If I would be one of the characters, I would love to be Sophie. She’s snatched by the BFG and gets in to a great adventure. After the Giants are catched, she is going to live in a nice big house together with the BFG. I would also love to be Sophie, because she is so brave when she helps the BFG. And she helps the BFG with reading and writing.
Which part did you liked the best?
I liked the part when Sophie try’s to find out or the BFG eats people the best. They are talking about the taste of different human beans and Sophie is very scared, because she thinks the BFG is going to eat her any minute. Than she asks: ‘what sort of human beans do you eat?’ The BFG shouts: Me! Me gobbling up human beans! This I never! The others, yes! All the others is gobbling them up every night, but not me! I is a freaky Giant! I is a nice and jumbly Giant! I is the only nice and jumbly Giant in Giant Country! I is the BIG FRIENDLY GIANT! What is your name? Sophie is very happy with this answer and says ’my name is Sophie’.
What kind of story is it?
This story is a mix of different genres. It is grisly but also friendly. Children can read it and they will like it.
What is the main idea of this story?
There isn’t really a main idea in this story. When the story is about the BFG, it is friendly and nice. It’s the same with Sophie. But when the story tells about the other Giants, the story is grisly, because there is told when they eat people and how.
How would you explain the title of this story?
The title of the story is ‘The BFG’. This means The Big Friendly Giant. Big because he is a Giant and he is the only giant who does not eats children, so he is called Friendly. He is the person where it is all about in this book, so that’s why the book is called ‘The BFG’.
What’s the most important event?
The most important event in this story is when Sophie is snatched by the BFG. From that moment, everything changes for everyone. The BFG has a new friend and Sophie lives not anymore in an orphanage. The queen meets for the first time in her life a giant and the other giants are catched and dropped in a big hollow.

I have never met a person in my life that had such a great change in his life. Summary (Dutch) Als Sophie op een nacht wakker ligt, wordt ze door een enorme reus meegenomen naar zijn huis. Daar aangekomen vertelt de reus dat hij geen mensen eet en dat hij de GROTE VRIENDELIJKE REUS is (in het Nederlands de GVR en in het Engels The BFG). De GVR kent de Engelse taal niet zo goed en maakt vaak grappige fouten, zoals: ‘Your Majester, I is your humbug servant’. Hij laat Sophie de grotere reuzen zien, die wel mensen eten. Ook laat hij de dromen zien die hij vangt. De GVR en Sophie bedenken samen een plan om de mensen te redden en de reuzen gevangen te nemen. Ze gaan naar de koningin van Engeland en laten haar het hele verhaal dromen. Die droom eindigt ermee dat er een klein meisje op haar vensterbank zit. Als ze wakker wordt zit dat meisje (Sophie) er echt. De koningin gelooft nu ook de rest van haar droom en samen met de GVR bedenken ze een plan om de grote reuzen gevangen te nemen. Uiteindelijk hangen ze de reuzen aan de enorme rijkshelikopters en gooien ze in Engeland in een heel groot gat. Mensen kunnen daar op bezoek komen. Nadat er een paar mensen zijn opgegeten komt er een bordje te hangen met ‘Verboden te voeren’. De koningin geeft de GVR en Sophie een heel mooi huis en Sophie leert de GVR goed lezen en schrijven.
