Book Review High Fidelity by Nick Hornby

I’ve read the novel ‘High Fidelity’ written by Nick Hornby. The novel is written in a fluent way and is not difficult to understand. It’s about a man named Rob who lives in London and is the owner of a record shop. In the first chapter you find out everything about all the women Robs has been seeing during the previous 10 years. Rob tells you how their relationship was, why they broke up and what he thinks of these women now.

The next chapter is named ‘Now’. In this chapter Rob starts telling about Laura, the woman he has been living with for about three years, but their relationship doesn’t work that good anymore and Laura leaves Rob. Rob is a bit sad, because after a while he really misses Laura and things get even worse when Rob finds out Laura has betrayed him with Ian, their neighbour.
Rob can’t stop thinking about her, but life goes on, and one evening he goes out with two friends to a pub, and sees Marie. Marie is a singer- songwriter and when she starts singing her first song, Rob starts crying. After Marie’s performance, Rob and his friends go to the stage to have a chat with her and buy a tape. Marie asks them if they know a good record shop in the neighbourhood and they tell her about their own record shop. A few days later Marie comes to their record shop and askes Barry, one of Rob mates to come to ‘the white lion’ that evening, because she is going to sing there. Rob and his mates insist and they go to see her. After her performance they all go for a drink… and Marie and Rob end up having sex. Rob is not completely satisfied with his relation with Marie because he can’t stop thinking about Laura. One day Laura calls him and says her father has died, and asks Rob to come to his funeral. Laura and Rob talk a lot that day, and finally decide to give their relationship a second chance.
