It was founded when Mr. Keating was a student at Welton Academy, now the 6 friends want to put new live in it. Content: You have 6 friends Todd Anderson, Knox Overstreet, Neil Perry, Charlie Dalton, Steven Meeks, and Richard Cameron. They all go to the Welton Academy and for English they have a new teacher, Mr. Keating. Mr. Keating is different, in his classes he teaches the boys to think for themselves. Neil did some research about the teacher and discover that Keating had been a member of a group called ‘Dead Poets Society’. It intrigues him and asks Keating what this group was. The friends decide then to restart this organisation, after that Mr. Keating has explained. In the beginning it’s very nice, but after a while everybody begun really to think for themselves. Neil decides to act in a play, but he knows that his father wouldn’t agree, so he doesn’t tell it to him. His father finds out and obliges Neil to stop with the play. But it’s the day before the opening performance, so Neil doesn’t quit. That night Mr. Perry, after the performance, takes Neil back home because he has disobeyed. When Neil is home it isn’t big fun, his father is very angry. They all go to bed and in the middle of the night Neil goes up, takes the revolver of his dad and commits suicide. At Welton an investigation is started because Mr. Nolan, the headmaster, is sure that Mr Keating was the cause of this suicide. The other 5 boys are forced to sign a paper that will cause that Mr. Keating need to resign. Place: The story takes place at Vermont, in the Welton Academy.

How long: circa a year Characters: Todd Anderson: It’s his first year at Welton. He is very shy and don’t say much, but with the support of Mr. Keating he is less shy and begins to speak. Neil Perry: Most of the time he is the leader of the 6. He and his father aren’t good friends; his father decides every little thing for him. Knox Overstreet: He is very in love with Chris. Chris is the girlfriend of the son of the best friend of his father, but with poetry he conquers her hart. Charlie Dalton: He is a little bit wear. One night he decides that his name isn’t anymore Charlie for his friends but Nuwanda. Narrator: It’s an outside narrator.
Theme:
How close-minded people are. For example at Welton Academy, it’s one of the best academies, but the boys aren’t allowed to think for themselves nor make their own decisions.
Personal appreciation:
It was a good book, but sometimes it was difficult for me to understand what the author said, because my English isn’t so good. I think I will read this book later again, and then I will better understand.
