A puzzle for Logan
Jenny Logan is a police officer in Edinburgh. Once upon a time she had a day off. But the station called her up. A murder named Ronnie Campbell was escaped. A few minutes later, when Jenny was at her office, the phone in her office ranged. People found the body of a young woman. The woman had a wide cut across her throat. She seemed to be murdered by a person who was left-handed and who was taller than she. Jenny had found an envelope in the woman’s pocket. Her name was Morag Mackenzie. She wasn’t one of Campbell’s favourite people, that was in Campbell’s police record. Logan and Grant (Logan’s helper) found out that Morag lived together with Jimmy Brown, a criminal. Logan and Grant were going to visit Jimmy. In his house they saw a lot of stolen stuff. They didn’t become much wiser of Jimmy. They only found out that Morag used to work for “The Main Man”. But Jimmy couldn’t say who he was or what Morag was doing for him. Jimmy was left-handed and tall. Logan wanted to find out more about Campbell and Craig Sinclair, the person Campbell had killed seven years ago. Logan and Grant were going to visit Sinclair’s sister, Jean. Jean became very afraid of Campbell. She said to Logan and Grant that she always knew her brother was a criminal. She also said that her brother visited her one night, he was drunk. He said something about bags and lots of money. When they’re outside, Grant tells Logan about a very rich man, Baxter, whose nickname is Bags. He’s a criminal, but is very smart, so the police could never arrest him. Logan and Grant visited Baxter. He says he doesn’t know anything. He says he doesn’t know a Morag nor a Sinclair. When they leave, they hear him talk on the phone, he’s the main man. When they were in the car again, the police phone ranged. It was Tam Mc Donald, a journalist and a friend of Logan. He knows where Campbell is. Logan catches him with help from Tam. Campbell says he hasn’t killed Sinclair, nor Morag. Logan and Grant went to Jimmy again. He gives more information this time. He says that he followed Morag to find out who the main man was, but Morag stepped into a car. Jimmy also met Craig Sinclair once, but he hated him. Logan and Grant will talk to Baxter again, but Logan meets an old homeless man. He says he saw the murder of Sinclair, seven years ago. It was a tall man and he described the car he was driving in. It looked as the same car where Morag stepped in. When Logan and Grant are talking to Baxter again, they find out that he’s left handed. And he’s a tall man, but Jimmy and Campbell are both tall and both left-handed, so that doesn’t mean anything. But the car looks very much like the car where Morag stepped into. Baxter looked stressed this time. His face is getting red. One day later, Baxter tells everything. He killed Craig seven years ago, because he stole money of him. The reason why Craig was talking about “Bags” money. Baxter had blamed Campbell for the murder on Sinclair. Morag had to tell the police she saw Campbell and Sinclair together on the night Sinclair was killed. Baxter paid her a lot of money for that. When Morag saw on the news that Campbell escaped she met Baxter and told him she wanted more money for staying quiet. Then he killed her. Campbell will go free. He got a lot of money because he was seven years in prison for something he haven’t done.
