William Wallace was born in 1272. He grew up to be tall and strong. His dad wore a knights title but he didn’t have high regard. He couldn't put his son in a high military place. William became a priest. For a short while he lived with his uncle, who was a priest. His uncle taught him a lot of things. About how important freedom and independence is.
In 1291 his dad was killed by an English knight. William was very angry with the English. When he was on the way to his uncle he passed some looting soldiers. It came to a fight and everybody was killed or hurt accept for one. He escaped and told everybody what had happened. The English people were angry and wanted him. He hid himself in the woods to loot English people. He gave the money to poor Scottish people. This story resembles the story of Robin Hood.
In 1296 Scotland was attacked by Edward the First of England. William Wallace was the leader of the Scottish resistance who were fighting Edward I. After two years of war William lost. He went to France for some help, but didn’t get it. When he came back he was captured and locked up. He was hanged, disembowelled, beheaded and quartered by the English people in 1305. His head was for show on the London Bridge. The Scottish were very angry this time. They wrote stories and poems about him. Also they erected a statue. In 1995 a movie was made called Braveheart, featuring Mel Gibson. The Scottish have a lot of respect for William Wallace.
