What is weather:
Weather.. Weather is a strange thing that influences our life’s.
If the weather is bad we get sad.. But when it’s good were happy.
But what is weather?
If you look in a dictionary it would say: Weather is the state of the atmosphere.
But this is not the full meaning of weather..
I think this sentence requires some explanation.
Weather comes in different forms like rain and strong winds or no
wind and a nice warm sun. But you can also have mild

and cloudy or cold and clear days.
From dry to humid, sunny to clear and Windy to calm,
Weather sure is a variationable thing.
You can tell how weather is like by showing somebody a weather map.
It is just a normal map but with a cloud on it or a sun.
And with a 15 or 21 or something (temperature) and maybe with a
Weather vane with a number next to it (the wind direction and windspeed)

How we measure the weather:
We can measure how much water vapour is in the air or how hot it is in Celsius. It is very handy that we can measure the weather, because then we can weather people forecast the weather for tomorrow or days after that.
Here is a list with measurements for measuring the weather:
Anemometer = for measuring how fast the wind is blowing.
Weather van = for showing where the wind is blowing from.
Rain gauge = for measuring the average precipitation is a place.

Thermometer = for measuring how hot or how cold it is.
Visibility meter = for measuring how many clouds are in the sky.
Barometer = for measuring the air pressure.

Clouds and Rain:
Clouds form when warm air is rising to the sky.
The warm air contains water vapour. But the droplets are so small that the human eye cant see it. But when the air rises it the temperature falls and the water vapour condenses in larger drops. Now we can see it and so clouds are formed. When the temperatures falls even further the drops get heavier and heavier. There is no warm air to push it upwards so the drops start to fall down.
We called this rain. This is the simplest kind of rain, it’s called convectional rain
You also have relief rainfall. This is caused by clouds being pushed up a mountain by the wind. Making the clouds rise very fast and letting the temperature fall fast. As I explained before it starts to rain.
And the third kind of rainfall is called Frontal rainfall.
This is caused by a warm air mass ‘carrying’ clouds meeting a cold air mass.
The cold air is heavier so it slips under the warm air. This causes the warm air to rise taking the clouds with it as it rises the air gets colder and guess what happens... It starts to rain. Back to clouds now.
You have several kinds of clouds. Thin and thick clouds, low and high altitude.

To name three kinds of clouds: cumulus clouds, stratus clouds and cirrus clouds.

Air pressure and weather:
How does wind form?
Wind is air that ruches from a point with high pressure to a point with a low pressure and that is called wind.
How does high and low pressure form? When there is a point where the air is rising than the pressure falls the rising air condenses and that form rain. When warm air rises at a point than the cold one is pushed away and then you get high pressure!

Sudden changes in weather:
The air that is in the air is cold and dry or warm and damp. Those masses are called air masses, cold air masses or warm air masses. When two air masses are meeting each other (cold and warm) then there is a sudden change in weather. Then rain occurs, because the cold air slide under the warm mass and then the warm air condenses (because how higher you go how colder it will be) and that forms clouds and clouds give rain.

Weather pictures:
You can tell a lot of the weather just by looking outside.
Are the people wearing warm clothes? It probably is cold.
Are they wearing umbrella’s and is there a thick cloud blanket in the air.
It probably is going to rain or it rains already.
But you might want to know more of what the weather is like.
You could learn more by studying a satellite picture.
On this you can easily see where are clouds and where none are.
And if you have several pictures of the same place you can even predict the weather.

Climate and weather:
Weather is the state of the atmosphere and weather can change very fast. Climate is the average weather in a place. E.g. in December is Holland it is very cold, but in Australia they celebrate Christmas on the beach. Holland doesn’t have a very warm climate and also not such cold climate. In some places in Africa there is a desert climate and on the North Pole there is a Pole climate!

The factors that influence the climate:
The main factor that influences our climates the most is the latitude. How closer to the equator you come how warmer and more humid it’ll be.
Other general factors are:
Close to the sea? (when it’s close to the sea the summers and winters will be milder)
Close to ocean currents (ocean currents will warm the wind so will cause warmer summers and weathers)

Some local factors are:
In the city? (the warmth given of buildings will warm everything up)
Is the place sheltered from storms and winds? (This needs no explanation.

Conclusion:
This concludes our working paper about geography
With the weather as main subject.
