Summary:
On the afternoon of Friday, October 13 1972, one of the most controversial tales of survival began when an airplane carrying a team of young rugby players from Uruguay crashed into the Andes Mountains. There are yet 27 men alive. The persons who died, lay down outside. They haven’t much food, so they must survive with one gulp of wine, and one cube chocolate. After five days, they saw a plane. Everyone thinks that they are saved. That night they eat all chocolate and drink all the wine. But the plane never comes back. They have no food anymore.
On day 8 they learnt from the radio that the search had been abandoned. The only thing the team has riding on after losing so many of their good friends and family members is the slim chance of making it through alive and their faithfulness to God. Nando say: [addressing the survivors] Okay, I got something to tell you. Good news; they called off the search.
[Everyone objects and argues]
Carlitos Páez: Why the hell is that good news?
Nando: Because it means we're gone get out of here on our own.
So they are thinking a way to get out of there. Because they have no food anymore, they gone eat the dead people. Then an avalanche has arrived. There are yet 18 men alive. The tail of the plane already broken before the crash happens. In the tail of the plane are some battery for the radio, were they can send a SOS message. Nando, Antonio and Roberto are on there way to find the tail of the plane. It’s a hard way because it’s high in the mountains and there is not much air to breath. They turn back but later on they try it again. The winter is passed, and the sun stays longer so they have more time to look forward. And this time they have enough food with them to get energy. When they get at the tail of the plane, they found more thinks, thinks to keep all warm, but no battery. Antonio says: “lets walk to the west, because there is Chilie and live people who can help us” Nando think it’s not good idea, because otherwise we will die in such long tour. Fifty days they are still at the place of the crash. Antonio is getting pissed and they choose to walk to the west, he getting Nando with him finally. The team wishes them luck, and yes after ten weeks in the cold they get in Chillie and everybody is saved.
