Sars

Hello, I’m going to have my presentation about SARS, because it’s a very up to date subject and I think that everybody should know something about it.

Sars is a shortening for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. It’s for the first time discovered in the province Guangdong in China in November 2002. Then there were about 300 people who had breathing problems and who had pneumonia. These lung troubles couldn’t be identified till February 2003.

These corona virus has caused Sars and you can get infected by close contact, for example if you work in a hospital where they take care for people who have Sars or if you live together with someone who has it. The virus loses his risk of infection 1 day after he left the human body. But in the faeces (a decent word for the shit and the pee) the virus can survive more days longer. Further the virus can spreading by drops in the air. Think for example of coughing.

If you are infected the incubation period is 2 to 7 days. This is the time between getting infected and becoming sick. This is at the latest 10 days. The symptoms are; flu, fever, muscular pain, dry couch, shortness of breathes, diarrhoea and sore throat.

The chance you died from the virus is 14 to 15 percent, but it different a lot qua ages. If you are younger than 24 the chance is 1 percent. Between 25 and 44 6 percent, between 45 and 64 15 percent and if you are older than 65 the chance to die is 50 percent.

Over the whole world 217 people have died from Sars, it’s scattered over 27 countries and 3861 people are infected now. In China are over 2000 infected people. Besides Asia the virus has signalled in Canada, the United States of America, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Australia and Brazil. In Europe nobody has died yet.

So far not any medicines have discovered against this virus, but you will be handled with the normal medicines. To prevent the virus can spread, the patients will be isolated.
