Should we tolerate international migration and non-integrating migrants?

Hello and welcome to my speech. I am delighted that for once, that I have a wonderful audience. An audience that, I hope, will not talk during my speech. An audience, which shares their ideas with each other and with me. An audience that is great!
As you all know this speech is about the rising level of people who migrate to another country and in the end, I link to non-integrating migrants. That is why my question is; should we tolerate this? First, a short introduction in which I explain what tolerance is. Tolerance is a social, cultural and religious phrase applied to the communal and individual practice of not persecuting those who may believe, behave or act in ways of which one may not agree with your act or believes. Tolerance is seen as a more acceptable term than "acceptance" and exceptionally "respect".

My opinion is that we should tolerate migration, but of course there are boarders, because who are we to decide if people may or may not leave their country because of political reasons? Who are we to decide if people want to work in another country because in their own country is hardly any work? We have not the right to say to the east European people that they can not come here and work. In fact, it is only a good thing if those wonderful people come here and help to keep the economy up. That is same the Turks, the Moroccans and the Antilleans.

Here is the Netherlands are many jobs that nobody wants to do, like picking up the garbage. If nobody is picking up the trash, then our superb streets will always be dirty, full with trash and the rats are going to like that. So why not letting the east Europeans as the Polish people take those jobs. If they were tolerated, even the economy would grow even more. Those pro’s are: there are less vacancies. Those people live here and spend some money here, which is good for the employers. They send the money that the have left at the end of each month to their families in developing countries, so also those countries have some profit with international migration. According to Kofi Annan, “the amount of money migrants from developing nations send back to their families, estimated at 167 billion dollars in 2005, exceeds the total of all international aid combined.” Therefore, what he is trying to say is that those foreign workers did much more for their own countries then that the rest of the world did.

There are people who are extremely against international migration, even here in Holland. They do not tolerate this anymore. There are even political parties who are against the rising level of foreign people, and especially the rising level of Muslims. They say that in the Netherlands are enough other cultures like the ones from the Muslims, and the east Europeans. But that is the wonderful thing about our country, because we have so many different cultures, all those cultures are mixed and made a new culture; the culture of the Netherlands and we should be proud of this. We cannot let those parties have a lot of power here.

Imagine that you live in a less developed country and that you are a very bright student. You study medicines in your country, for how far that is possible, and you are a straight-A student. After collage, you are searching for a nice job that earns enough to pay your study debts, but there are not any jobs to find in your own country. What would you do? Of course, you would try to migrate to a more developed country in the hope to find good work there. Of course, you would work there and help the society.

In the beginning, I told you that my opinion is that we should tolerate migration but of course, there are boarders. I said this because there are migrants who do not work, who do not speak our language, who do not enlarge their social friends group with people from another culture and who do nothing and still get money from our government. This is one thing I do not tolerate, non-integrating people. I respect their cultures but they should also respect ours. I realise that it’s hard to adapt to something that you are not used of for more then 50 years but there are most of the time the youngsters who do not adapt. I do not say that no migrants integrate but there are some individual groups in this society, which think that they are still in Morocco, Turkey and in Poland. There are several ways to not tolerate them; one is that we should give them less money every month so that they do not have a choice; they only have a choice to work. The second possible way is more aggressive, throwing them out of the country. I am not a huge fan of the last way because I think it is barbarian to do that. The political parties like ÉénNL and the party of Wilders, which are almost extreme right, wants to use the second way.

My conclusion is that we should tolerate international migration because it’s only good for the economy but that we should not tolerate non-integrating people. Now you heard my opinion about this subject and I hope that you’re going to share my believes. Thank you for listening, you were a great audience.
