We, Sophie and Floor, have chosen the subject “English Habits – specifically School Uniforms”, because that is a unusual thing to tell about because we don’t have this in Holland.
The chapters are:
Chapter 1: School Uniforms for boys
Chapter 2: School uniforms for girls
Chapter 3: Physical Education outfit
Chapter 4: the rules from the Scorton Grammar School
Chapter 5: the biography
We hope that you enjoy it! Chapter 1 - School Uniforms for boys At school in England you very often wear a school uniform. Everybody at school wears the same uniform. Here are pictures of the traditional school uniform. Boys in a school uniform
Traditional school uniform for boys
The traditional school boys’ uniforms exist of: -shoes - on this picture you can see that the boys wear black shoes. -socks- the traditional knee-length stockings are normally grey -short trousers (pants) – traditionally grey as well -white shirt -a tie -a jacket (also called blazer) – also grey -and a cap
Very often the jacket and the cap have the school emblem (logo). Boys often wear short trousers until the age of 13 or 14. School Uniforms are not always the same color and have of course their own emblem of the school. Chapter 2 School Uniforms for girls
The school uniforms for girls
Shoes – the same as the boys they wear black shoes. Socks – the girls and boys wear both knee-lengths. Skirt – in the winter they wear a long skirt and in the summer they wear a short skirt. Shirt (blouse) – the most of them are white. Tie – they most wear a tie as well (boys and girls). Jacket – they wear a jacket with the emblem of the school and also a cap with the emblem of the school. Chapter 3 Physical Education (P.E.) outfit. They have also a P.E. outfit. Student in a P.E. outfit
They have everything the same including the shoes. The outfit: -shoes -socks -Skirts for girls and shorts for boys. -Shirt with the emblem of the school. -Sweater with the emblem and the colour of the school. The reason why they dress the same is because it is a rule at most of the schools in England. There is another reason to, because it is not fare to other students who can not afford more expensive clothes like brand clothes (Nike, Puma, Adidas etc). Now there is no discussion about the clothes because everybody wears the same. Chapter 4 the rules from the Scorton Grammar School Below you can see the rules on uniforms for a grammar school in the early 1960’s. You can see it is very strict; there are many rules for a school. Those are the rules of the Scorton Grammar School
The most important rule is that they have wear the school uniform at the school period.
In England are also private schools for the rich people, and they also wear uniforms, like the normal children on the ordinary schools.
Chapter 5 the biography
We have our information from:
From an information site www.Google.nl and there we found the site
www.killicomaine.co.uk, that is where our information came from. We have used our own knowledge to. It was very hard to find good pictures about this subject, like girls in a school uniform. We found a lot about boys in school uniforms but not many about girls in a school uniform but we did find some pictures and that was good enough to make a good story. The pictures were taken from several web sites.
