Our presentation is about the Beatles. I’m gonna tell something about the history of the beatles. In 1955 the Skiffle music was very populair in England. Lots of teenagers started their own band. Also John Lennon started his own skiffle group in Liverpool. In March 1957, a few weeks after buying his first guitar, John Lennon was the leader of the band “The Quarrymen”. After the third performance John Lennon met Paul McCartney. He joined in the band. Paul McCartney asked a younger schoolfriend who could play very well guitar to play in the band. His name was George Harrison. The name Quarryman changed in The Silver Beatles, and Stuart Sutcliffe joined the group. He played bass guitar. Also Pete Best joined the group, and he played drums. The Silver Beatles had their first stage-experience in 1960 in Hamburg. In Hamburg also played other rock&roll groups from Liverpool. Back in Liverpool, the audience was very impressed about the progression the band made. Their popularity was growing and growing. In the summer of 1961 the Beatles returned to Hamburg. And during this visit, the Beatles made their first albumrecord. The result was the single My Bonnie. In the German hit-parade it became number 32. Brian Epstein was interested in the Beatles, and taked over the management of the group from Allan Williams. The Beatles went for 2 times back to Hamburg. Stuart Sutcliffe decided to leave the band. Stuart died in Germany in april 1962 because of brain haemorrhage. The producer hestitate about the quality of the very popular drummer Pete Best. He was replaced by Richard Starkey, better known as Ringo Starr. The new song Please Please Me was within 6 weeks number 1 in the hit-parades. The Beatles popularity rised very high with new songs like From Me To You, She Loves You, I Want To Hold Your Hand and Can’t Buy Me Love. On every place the Fab Four showed up, the Beatlemania appeared. The request of Beatle products was immense. There were Beatles chewing-gum, wallpaper and boots. The popularity of the Beatles was the best in december 1963. They had seven singles and EP’s in the top-20, and the fanclub had 80.000 members. Lots of groups want to beat the Beatles, like the Rolling Stones, The David Clark Five and The Hollies. Because of that their manager Brian Epstein tried to make the Beatles more populair outside the United States. It was not very successfull, but with the American release of I Want To Hold Your Hand eveything changes. At the arrival on Kennedy Airport in february 1964 there where 10.000 yelling fans waiting for the Beatles. In the summer of 1964 the Beatles toured through Europe and the far east. In Adelaide came 300.000 people together to see the Beatles. That was a new record.
