He is weird, isn’t he?
These men are wrong, aren’t they?
She wasn’t right, was she?
These shirts don’t fit, do they?
* Als er een vorm van to be in de zin staat – Am, Are, Is, Was, Were – of een hulpwerkwoord – Can, Could, Will, Would, Must – dan herhaal je die vorm in de aangeplakte vraag:
You are tired, aren’t you? à You aren’t tired, are you?
He was great, wasn’t he? à He wasn’t great, was he?
You will come, won’t you? à You won’t come, will you?
* Bij bijna alle andere werkwoorden in bevestigende zinnen gebruik je don’t, doesn’t of didn’t in de aangeplakte vraag:
She looks terrible, doesn’t she?
* Maar wanneer de eerste helft van de zin al don’t, doesn’t of didn’t bevat gebruik je in de aangeplakte vraag do, does of did:
She doesn’t look terrible, does she?
