Mitosis (summary)

There are different ways of making new cells. One of those is cell division. And in the category cell division, there are different kinds as well. One is mitosis. Almost all cells are made by mitosis except for sex cells. They are made by meiosis. Roughly the process of mitosis works like this: when a cell divides by mitosis it splits into two new daughter cells. These daughter cells are identical to the cell that they came from and to each other.

When does mitosis happen/occur?
· Mitosis occurs in growth. In order to grow, living things have to make new cells. And mitosis makes these new cells. Whether it is in the growth of a baby, the healing of a wound, the germination of seedlings or replacing red blood cells.

· Mitosis also occurs in asexual reproduction. The cells in the parent plant divide to make new cells. In this way they can make new individuals that are identical to their parent.

There are different stages in the process of mitosis;

1. Before a cell can divide it must make a second set of chromosomes. One of the 23 pairs of chromosomes in a nucleus divides and makes the second set. For a moment there are 92 chromosomes in the nucleus.
2. Then the cell starts to divide into two cells. One complete set of chromosomes goes into each one of the two daughter cells.
3. When this process is completed you have two daughter cells both containing a full set of chromosomes and both identical to the cell they came from.

Mitosis

What? A kind of cell division.
Makes? New cells identical to the one they came from.
How? A cell splits into two new daughter cells.
Occurs? With growth and asexual reproduction.
In? All cells except the sex cells.

Stages

1st The begin stage is when there is just one cell. In the nucleus are 23 pairs of chromosomes.

2nd Then each chromosome makes an identical copy of itself. For a moment there is the double number of chromosomes in the nucleus; 92.

3rd The third stage is that the cell starts to divide. Two separate cells are formed, the daughter cells, each containing a complete set of chromosomes.

4th And there are the two new daughter cells. They are identical to the cell they came from and identical to each other.

Mitosis (speech)

Well, I'm going to talk about mitosis. It's a kind of cell division. The process makes new cells identical to the ones they came from. How it works in short is that a cell splits into two new daughter cells. But I'll explain the whole process later. It occurs with growth; for example the growth of a baby but also the healing of a wound. And it occurs with asexual reproduction. Mitosis happens in about all cells except for the sex cells.

The process works like this.
First there is just one cell. In the nucleus are 23 pairs of chromosomes.
Then each chromosome makes an identical copy of itself. For a moment there is the double number of chromosomes in the nucleus; 92.
The third stage is that the cell starts to divide. Two separate cells are formed, the daughter cells, each containing a complete set of chromosomes.
And there are the two new daughter cells. They are identical to the cell they came from and identical to each other.
