Robert Rodriguez proves to be a top-director. Sin City really is a great movie! The movie which is based on the book of Frank Miller that carries the same name has many special-effects and the storyline is, to put it bluntly, brilliant!
In this movie there are three separate stories. They are all three about the normal day live in Sin City, a city full of violence and cruelties. This city doesn’t know any justice, it shows the future view of Frank Miller’s thoughts; gangs and crime bosses will take over the big cities and cops will turn into corrupt and despicable persons.
In the first story it all goes about one person: Marv. He’s one of the toughest guys in the streets of Sin City and nearly impossible to kill. In the movie he gets furious because his girl Goldie, who he only knows for 1 day, gets killed. All he wants is revenge.
Then there is a second story which is about Dwight. Dwight accidentally kills one of the so many corrupt cops. During the movie he does all kinds of things to hide the truth, trying not to ruin his business and family.
In the final story there is a 60-years-old cop called Hartigan. He’s on his last assignment before retiring. The 11-years-old girl Nancy Callahan is kidnapped, he succeeds in rescuing her but then he’s arrested for a crime he didn’t commit. After being in jail for 8 years he tries to find the kidnapper who is after Nancy Callahan again.
Bruce Willis shows that he still is one of Hollywood’s top actors. He is the perfect guy for the role of cop Hartigan. He looks heroic and convincing. He really has the edge that makes him a great actor.
Also Mickey Rourke performs very well in this movie. He isn’t a very famous actor yet, but this performance shows he does have the ability to become famous.
The movie uses a lot of special-effects. For instance they use the ‘Green Wall’-technique. They have a green background in the studio and then use some kind of cranes to let the actors float through the studio. Later they use the computer to place the real scene instead of the green background.
There also a lot of special-effects used in all the fights that are controlling the streets.
The movie gives you a good intention of Sin City. And because writer Frank Miller was very close concerned with the movie it also shows the events in the book.
You should really see this movie, it is an overwhelming and brilliant movie with a perfect cast and a storyline full of drama, adventure and crime.
