Suicide has become such a big problem it can’t be ignored anymore. I don’t think it’s true that people who kill themselves are selfish because they aren’t in any way able to think about anyone else. It’s not that they don’t want to think about someone else, it’s because they can’t. Many people have problems which bring them to despair and too often to killing oneself. These problems could be just about anything from bad results at school and pressure from parents to abuse of any kind. Loss of a loved one can also be a motivation for such deeds. But mostly it’ a combination of several reasons: if a person had a traumatising childhood, fails at everything he does and he’s had a couple of bad relationships, it shouldn’t be too hard to imagine why he commits suicide. You might think suicide is something only crazy, poor or pathetic persons would do, but that will most likely change once it happens to someone you love or admire. There are associations that actually help people at killing themselves, “Dignitas” is one of those. This is a Swiss organisation that “helps” the fatal diseased to end their lives to die in a certain dignity. By taking in poisoned water they end their lives themselves. Relatives mustn’t come with them, because in their homeland they could be prosecuted for murder. This is a good thing for people who are physically very ill, but for who has a mental illness this could be really bad. If they can’t decide for their own sake they shouldn’t be killed. It’s awful that so many young children take their lives, because they don’t even know what they’ll miss by doing so. Parents should talk to their children and try not to put too much pressure on them. If their expectations are too big compared to the child’s abilities they can act disappointed towards son or daughter which makes them depressed because they feel they can’t do anything right. Many persons can be saved by psychological aid. there aren’t much people who want to be helped, because they think it’s pointless and they won’t change their mind anyway. I think the best way of helping them is to stay really close to your friends and being there for them if they need to talk. This might not solve the issue but it might save your friends and your loved ones who might consider suicide.
