Vragenlijst
1. Titel: Robinson Crusoe
2. Schrijver: Daniel Defoe
3. Aantal bladzijden: 298

Essay: Me and Robinson Crusoë
This essay is about me and Robinson Crusoë, actually it’s about the differences and resemblances of me and Robinson. I think it’s a great job what Robinson pulled off out there, because I think that I couldn’t survive for more than one day on the island.
I’m so used to the luxury we’ve got here in the Netherlands, so spending time on an island with no-one else, no food and no clothes would be tough for me. When he meets Friday he’s very pleased to see him and I would be pleased too, but in real-life here in the Netherlands, I don’t make contact that quickly.

When Robinson sees those cannibals on the island he stays very calm, I wouldn’t know what to do if I saw cannibals, I mean: what if they would see me, then they would probably come after me and try to eat me. I think that Robinson never realized how lucky he was to have grown up in England before he got stuck on the island. Sometimes I realize that I’m very lucky that I could grow up in this time with all these technological things.
But when I’m using a computer, like now, I don’t realize that I’m using technology that they didn’t have 30 years ago.

What’s a resemblance of me and Robinson is that we both have fathers who loved to work at the sea. My father was a marine and his father was a skipper. Like him I don’t know what to do when I have finished my school and we (me and my parents) will move to Thailand in a couple of years. So like him I will miss my family and this country, but the difference is that I will have family in another country. When I’m going to move to Thailand I have no idea what I’m going to do, maybe I will go to college or start working.

If he’s back in England it’s almost like he doesn’t like the country anymore, maybe that’s because he has been away for so long. I wouldn’t know what to do if I came back after a couple of years, would my friends recognize me or would they’ve settled down somewhere else? I’ve seen “Cast away” and that’s the same story as ‘Robinson Crusoe’ but in our time.
When the guy returns to his (ex-)girlfriend, he’s very glad to see her, but she isn’t that glad because she thought he was dead and didn’t make it so she got married. In my case my girlfriend could do the same thing and I would be very sad afterwards, but her life went on so I have to live with it.

I hope that this essay was good enough to be read, if not I’m very sorry but I want to thank you anyway because you took the time to read it. And good luck with the rest of my report.

3. Building a road in one day.

Your own opinion / impression
• Positive points: Very good discussions and funny jokes
• Negative points: nothing at all

Summary (150 words)
This program they started with the comeback of Richard Hammond, he crashed in September last year and he has been away for 4 months. No-one thought that he would be better this quickly.

They started with the problem of building a road, which takes too much time. So they wanted to build one in 24 hours. It was a hell of a job, but they made it. Then ‘captain slow’’, who is the slowest of the 3 lads, got to drive in the fastest production car of the world.

The estimated top speed of the car was 400 km/h but he reached 407km/h. Then Hugh Grant came to drive in the reasonably priced car and he set an astonishing fast time, I was amazed because I didn’t think that an actor could drive that fast, and especially not an actor from romantic movies.

Title of the programme: Sixnationscup

Date: 04-02-2007
Duration: 90 minutes
Broadcasting station: BBC
Topic: Rugby from the sixnationscup

Type of programme: informative/sports

Main points / key elements:
1. Introduction of the rugby players.
2. The rugby game itself.
3. A summary of the game

Your own opinion / impression
• Positive points: I like to watch rugby very much, so I loved it to watch this programme.
• Negative points: They talked to much during the breaks.

Summary (150 words)
In the programme they began with introducing the players from England and Scotland.
The big news from the English team was, that Johnny Wilkinson returned after a long time of injuries. During the time of his injuries the English team didn’t win a lot of games.

Then the game began and you could see immediately that Johnny ‘Wilko’ Wilkinson returned. The English team began like they were the World Champions and soon started to score points. Every try, that’s the rugby version of a touchdown, the team can score points with a conversion. And Johnny Wilkinson is the guy who kicks those balls.
He scored 27 points on his own and was the match winner. It became 42-10 for England.
It was the first game they won after a long streak of lost games.

After the game, they gave a summary about the game and they all agreed that is was a fantastic game from ‘Wilko’ I was very pleased that he was back and now I can cheer the English team again. Never the less it was France who won the Sixnationscup and England became second.
