Characters

Amir: Amir is a nice guy, he is quickly affected by other people in his environment, because he pulls it to what people say about him. He is the brother of Hassan, but he knows that 30 years later. First they are friends.

Hassan: Hassan is also a nice guy.  He is the brother of Amir, but he knows that 30 years later. First they are friends. He was the servant of Amir’s father and the Hassan’s father was also the servant. 

They do not differ much from each other, they will come from other ethnic groups,  therefore the the norms and values differ. Amir and his father are representatives of the Pashtun people, Hassan and his father once again representatives of the Hazara `s.

Assef: He is a sadist and pedophile. He abused Hassan. He lived in the same neighborhood as Amir and Hassan.  His mother is from Germany and his father is from the Pushtan folk. He abused Hassan and more children. Later he is a member of the Taliban.

Baba: The father of Amir. He has much power and he was friendly and helpful. But he didn’t give not much attention on his son Amir. He did it with Hassan’s mother, but only Baba, the mother and Rahim Han known that. Hassan never known that.

Theme:

There are a lot of difference themes, like love, friendship, honor, fear,etc. So it’s a story with all the grand themes of literature and life. The most important theme is, maybe, friendship. You see the friendship of Amir en Hassan during the film.  It’s a extraordinary film by all these themes.

Setting of the story

The story plays in Afghanistan, but also in China. The played in China, because it was dangerous in Afghanistan. The young actors were threatened, because there were sexual scenes during the film.

Summary

For the Soviet invasion in Kabul Amir and Hassan are good friends. Amir goes to school but Hassan not because  he cannot read. Amir likes literature and reads stories to Hassan. The father of Amir thinks he is not hard enough for his son, because Amir protect themselves by Hassan when he is bullied. Amir thinks Baba does not like him because Amir's mother died giving birth to Amir.
Amir and Hassan are good in kiting. Together they take part in a competition and they won. When they cut the last kite Hassan went to search. If Hassan after a while is not back, Amir is going to find him. If he sees that Hassan is held by Assef and his henchmen. Assef that Hassan would not take the kite. Hassan is raped by Assef. Amir feels guilty that he didn’t nothing and walks back home. Then the Soviets attack in Afghanistan. Baba and Amir flee the country because Baba disagrees with communism and this allows everyone to hear. They first flights to Pakistan and then to America. Baba begins work at a gas station, and Amir goes to college. Every Sunday, Baba and Amir go to a flea market to make money selling used goods far extra money. Since Amir meets Soraya. Her family accepts Amir first but not later. Amir and Soraya later marry each other.
Then Amir called Rahim Khan he told him to come back. If Amir Khan is in Rahim tells him that Hassan was slain by the Taliban . Rahim Khan told about Sohrab 's son Hassan who lives in an orphanage . Amir is Sohrab look at the orphanage . If Amir in the orphanage is clear to him that Sohrab was taken in exchange for money . Amir finds out where Sohrab staying and goes to him. Here Amir meets Assef again . Assef asks if he still does not dare to stand up for themselves and start beating Amir . If Amir beaten to the ground is packed Sohrab his slingshot and shoot Assef in his eye . Then flights Amir and Sohrab back to America .

Sohrab begins to get used to living with Amir and Soraya slowly. The three of them go kiting. Amir shows Sohrab the tricks to which he used to be used in the kite . He also begins a duel with another kite. He wins this fight and while he pulls the kite he says the phrase Hassan said to him in the past, " For you, a thousand times over. "

Mood of the film

The film is a drama film. There are sad scenes, like the abused child and including rape. That’s the reason why there are many people, from Afghanistan, who were against the film. You see the wrong side of Afghanistan during the film.

My opinion

I found it a very interesting movie, and also very sad with what happened. I knew that things happened in Afghanistan (Islam) as women hit etc. But that they really do such terrible things like in the movie, they also leave you a piece of the Taliban that I found interesting, because you hear (heard) a lot about it in the news but you don’t really know how it happens .

I found it a beautiful film, that has put me thinking. It hit me, and it was not waste of time to watch the film.

It was unfortunate that they recorded the bad things of Afghanistan. I know how it looks now in Afghanistan, I know what the Taliban did, but the people in Afghanistan are very angry, because you see the negative side of Afghanistan.
