Plot

Eight years after the death of Harvey Dent, organized crime has nearly disappeared in Gotham City because of the Dent Act. With the death of Harvey Dent, Batman died out too, as he was no longer needed. The city could hold his own.

Gordon feels guilty about the cover-up about Dent’s crimes, but decides the city is not yet ready for it.

While trying to chase down thugs in the sewers of Gotham City, Gordon gets captured by Bane’s men. Gordon manages to escape the sewers, but heavily injured. A police officer called John Blake finds Gordon, and brings him to the hospital. While healing in the hospital, Gordon promotes Blake to detective.

Wayne Enterprises, owned by Bruce Wayne (also known by the viewer as the Batman), is nearly bankrupt after Bruce invested in an energy project, a fusion reactor. However, after the reactor could also be used as a nuclear bomb, the project was shut down.

In an attempt to stop Bruce from returning as the Batman, Bruce’s butler, Alfred, resigns, leaving Bruce alone to stop Bane.

After Bane attacks a stock exchange, he uploads a virus which renders Bruce’s company, and thus Bruce, bankrupt.

In search of Bane, Batman asks Selina, a burglar, to lead him to Bane in exchange for a device that would erase every trace of her on every database on the world.

Instead, Selina leads him to a trap, so that Bane would not kill her.

Bane reveals he knows Batman’s true identity, and will (attempt) to destroy Gotham, which was both Batman’s and Bane’s mentors’, mission. Bane breaks Batmans back and sends him to a prison, where Bane grew up.

Meanwhile, Bane manages to trap nearly all of Gothams’ police force underground. Having isolated Gotham from the rest of the world, Bane reveals to have stolen Wayne Enterprice’s fusion reactor, and modified it so that it would serve as a nuclear bomb. Bane also releases all the prisoners in the local prison, and reveals the cover-up of Dent’s crimes, in order to start a revolution amongst the population.

Bruce spends months healing in the prison, while training himself for his escape. Eventually he manages to indeed escape, and together with Selina, Blake, Tate, Gordon and Fox he attempts to stop the nuclear bomb. Together they also manage to release the trapped policemen underground.

After a massive fight between good and evil, Batman seemed to win from Bane, but just before he could finish it, Tate comes to Bane’s aid, revealing she was Ra’s al Ghul’s daughter, whom was also Batman’s and Bane’s mentor. Tate was also carrying the remote detonator for the bomb.

Just when Tate presses the button to detonate the bomb, Gordon blocks Tate’s detonator using a special device.

Due to corrosion effects however, the bomb would still go off because of the destabilized core. In an attempt to still save Gotham, Batman uses a helicopter-like vehicle to throw the bomb into the sea outside the city.

Batman succeeds and is praised a hero, while his true identity, Bruce, is assumed killed by the riots.

Personal opinion

Overall it was a great film, with a lot of action, as well as a good story line. It is one of my favorite films I have ever seen, mainly due to the great story line and acting.
