1. What nelson Mandela did and background information
Nelson Mandela was born in 18 July 1918 in Mvezo (a small town close to Imtata).
Nelson Mandela helped to form the first black government of South Africa and became president of South Africa. But before he was president, served he as an anti-apartheid activist and he was the leader of the armed wing of the African National Congress (the ANC). In 1961 he was convicted of sabotage and other charges. In 1962 he was arrested and sentenced to life in prison. After he served 27 years in prison was he released on 11 February 1990. After he released from prison, returned Mandela to the leadership of the ANC. On 27 April 1994, when South Africa’s first multi-racial elections were held did the ANC win 62% of the votes in the election. Mandela, as leader of the ANC, became on 10 may 1994 the first black president of South Africa.
2. Why I chose nelson Mandela
I chose nelson Mandela because of the things what he did (the things which make him a hero): fighting for his color and fighting for his country but most important fighting against the apartheid (which divided white and black people in South Africa and kept them separate). When he was released from prison he started to fight again with the same risk (a sentenced to life in prison), but this time he had more success and became the president of South Africa, or he became a hero for fighting against the apartheid.


  3. What makes a person a hero to me
A person becomes/is a hero when he does thing for other people who really need it, for example: the thing that UNICEF does (improving the health of the poor families in Africa) or in this case what Nelson Mandela did (fighting against the apartheid in South Africa).
