Reserved jobs for women

Exercise Essay 3 -  Havo 4

Most employers try to present the job market as best they can, telling everyone that they treat all employees equally. But in reality this is not the case at all.

In accordance with Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, “everyone has the right to education”. But despite this, in many countries the families only have money for 1 child to go to school, and then usually the son is chosen, rather than the daughter.

When a woman and a man both apply for the same job, the man will most likely be hired. In most cases, if a man and a woman both have the same job, the man will earn more than the woman, despite doing exactly the same job. Employers don't want to admit this, of course, but this is the reality.

In addition to that, recently in geography we learned about reading population models. This tells you a lot about how well a country is doing. You can also see how equal job opportunities are in a country, if women are more often unemployed than men. This is usually the case in the periphery-countries, rather than in the centre-countries.

So even though the rights for woman seem very similar to those of men, employers will always be biased and prefer to employ men over women. Nothing can be done about this, because the employers are not doing anything illegal.
