2. Why did I chose this book?
I chose this book because I thought it was easy to read and because I like detectives.

3. Summary:

Lenny Samuel is a private detective who is asked by a woman to do a job for him for 50 dollars a day. The woman, Helen Garfield, wants him to find her sister Elaine who disappeared.

He starts the investigation and is attacked by two men a couple of times. In the end he finds out they are criminals.
Elaine’s colleague Suzy tells Lenny that Elaine went to the Las Cabanas club often, where she met a man called Benny Greep. When Lenny goes to Benny’s apartment he finds him dead in the bath. He is arrested for the murder of Benny but the police lets him go after he told what happened. The police starts to investigate all about Helen, and finds out there is no Helen Garfield.

The next time Lenny and “Helen” meet she tells him the whole story:
Her name was Elaine and there never existed a Helen. Elaine went to Las Cabanas every night to see Benny Greep, who played there in the band. Two men, obviously criminals, always came to Las Cabanas with big bags. One night she manages to look into a bag and it was full of jewellery. Then Benny and Elaine stole one of the bags an hid it in Elaine’s apartment. When the criminals found out, Elaine moved into a hotel and hired Lenny. She thought that if the criminals found her, Lenny would find out and go after them.

The story ends well: at the same moment the criminals try to get the bag back they are arrested. Poor Lenny, he his not paid for all his efforts because Elaine has no money after returning the bag with the jewels!

4. What did I (not) enjoy?
I did enjoy the whole story but I did not like the ending!

5. Describe 3 main characters:
Lenny Samuel: He is a private eye and very intelligent. His reactions are very cool. For example: when he is being arrested for murder he does not think it is a big problem.
Helen Garfield: The women who asks Lenny to find her sister. She is also smart but she is also a liar. She is a beautiful woman (picture).
Sergeant Murphy: A boring old bold person who doesn’t like private detectives. He isn’t very smart but in the end he does the right thing by arresting the criminals.
