About the book

When I look at the cover of the book, it makes me happy.
There is a little baby on the cover, the baby was grey, only the eyes are blue and it looks very cute.
I chose the book because the cover was so nice, I didn’t knew what snapper meant, but I didn’t care about it when I chose the book.
The book has 224 pages.
The book is built up in little chapters.
When there is a new place, time or person there will start a new chapter.

The chapters don’t have titles, that is a little bit confusing sometimes.
The chapters are in a chronologic order.
I never read something from Roddy Doyle before.

About the story
The story takes place in Ireland, the family Rabbitte lives in a town called Barrytown. The time when the story takes place could be now in 2009, I’m not really sure about the exact time. Some things they describe in the book, we have today.
The time what passed is about six months. Because it was from Sharon’s 3th week of pregnancy till the childbirth.
In the first pages of the book, they tell a little about the brothers and sisters of Sharon, her father and mother.
You read in the first pages about Sharon’s pregnancy. Sharon hasn’t told anyone, but she thinks about how she is going to tell them.

The style of the book was not very simple because it wasn’t an ordinary English vocabulary.
There were only dialogues in the book.
I never read such a book, so it was new to me, but I liked it.
The sentences are short, because the sentences are dialogues.

There is one flashback in the book, that is the scene where Sharon had sex with Mr. Burgess.
The subject is pregnancy.

I will call it a sort of love story.
I think the climax is when you know who the daddy is and everybody in the book knows it, but everybody is talking rubbish.
Everybody says it is Mr. Burgess, but Sharon says that it is a Spanish sailor.
The book is called the snapper, because the baby only has a young mother and not a real father, so the baby is the snapper.
In the beginning I didn’t liked the book.

Own opinion
It was difficult to read for me, but then I wanted to know who the father was, because I really had no idea.
The end was good, because then I knew that it was a girl.
I didn’t learn much from reading this book, but I would recommend this book to other students because it is a nice book.
