He employed Rudy, weekends and night during his studies. Bruiser Stone: Prince’s friend: he engaged Rudy in his office. Booker Kane: best friend of Rudy, they help each other. Dot and Bud Black: They have a lot of many problems with an insurance company and need Rudy’s help in fighting a big insurance company because he has leukemia. 6.Choose one character: Rudy Baylor: he is a lawyer, he is the main character, has no job, no money, he has debts and he can’t pay them. He is very courageous and he does his possible to help the family Black. He is intelligent, young and after winning Black’s case he becomes a well-known personality.
7.Summary: It’s the story of Rudy Baylor who has finished his law studies but must pass his bar exam. During his studies he worked the weekend in Yogi’s bar. The first case of Rudy is this of family Black whom son Donny Rye suffers of leukemia. He needs a bone marrow transplant but the insurance company” Great Benefit refuses to pay them. Rudy makes all his possible to help this family, but he has many difficulties. His friend Prince has a friend Mr Bruse Stone, who agrees to take Rudy in his lawyer office. Rudy meets there Deck Siflet who helps him with the case Black. Rudy meets also a nice woman, Kelly, whom man beats her with a baseball bat. In the meantime Ruddy passed luckily his bar exam. Siflet says one day to Rudy that they must take all their files at home, because he thinks that Stone is not honest. So they do. One day after they learn by TV that Bruse and Prince are suspected of criminal activities. Rudy and Siflet open together a small office and they will defend the Black’s case instead of Burse. In the meantime judge Harvey Hale was falling dead in his bathroom. He was not favourable to the Black’s. But the new judge, Kipler, who is a very honest man and he sees that Great Benefit has stolen the Black’s. The verdict is favourable for the Black’s, who will receive a lot of million dollars in damages Mrs Black does not want any cent and will give this fortune to the leukemia society because it is too late to save Dony who was dead a long time ago. One day Kelly was beaten for the fourth time by her man Cliff, but Rudy comes and takes the bat out off Cliff’s hands and gives him a good swing. “Stop it” says Kelly, “and leave.” He steps outside but Cliff was dead and the police think that Kelly is the murderess. The next day Rudy learns that the FBI is arrived at the head office of Great Benefit. The millions are disappeared and taken out to Europe. Kelly was finally free. She and Rudy can now begin a new life.. 8.Vocabulary: Bone marrow transplant: It is a medical operation consisting in transplantation of bone marrow. To be fired: to be made out of a firm when they don’t need you. Trial: judgement 9.Explain title of book: A RAINMAKER is a person who makes miracles. It’s somebody who never loses. 10.Personal opinion: I find that book very interesting because you read how it is difficult in the United States to be a good lawyer because the struggle for life is very hard in the jungle of the legal affairs. I mean that the system of insurance in the USA is not good, because poor people does not able to pay big sums to the insurance companies and when they fall sick they have no help from these companies. N.B.: President Clinton would institute a legal system of insurance and his wife Hillary had made a large study of this problem but the Republican opposition refused this. 11: Vive marks: 7/10
