Reason(s) why you chose this book: When I saw this book and his the cover with the pictures of the three boys looking angry and the fighting people at the background first I thought this could be a nice book to read. When I read the cover at the backside of the book the tekst really looked nice and exiting so I decidet to read it. First I found the way the tekst was written very strange because it’s all written in a way someone coult tell it. Allso the way of writing sometimes was just the way of talking so not really good English. When I was reading I started to be curious and so I read further. 3. What is the Plot of the novel: The novel The Outsiders is about Three brothers and their friends who belong to the same “Gang” This Gang hasn’t got a name but the boys who are in it they’re called Greasers because of the way they look with their Greasy hair.They are poor and have to work hard to survive. The Greasers have got one big enemy, The socials (boys & girls who have rich parents and nice cars) the socials are allso called Socs. The Socs and the Greasers have allways been eachothers enemy and they fight with eachother once in a while. The main Character in this story is Ponyboy Curtis. The has two brothers Sodapop Curtis and Darrel (Darry) Curtis. Ponyboy is the joungest of the three and allmost gets beaten up by a group of Socs. After a while Ponyboy goes to a drive-in cinema with Johnny and Darry , his brother. Johnny is a kind of lozer. He doesn’t say much and gets beaten up by his father. But everybody does respect Johnny because he has been beaten up bij Socs very bad once. Ponyboy en Johnny start to talk with two girls and they like eachother but there is one problem, they are socs. When the group of socs find out that two Greasers have been flirting with their girls they want revange. They find Ponyboy and Johnny and want to teach them a lesson. But Johnny will not let them beat him up again so when the socs allmost drown Ponyboy in a fontain he gets his swichblade and kills one of the Socs. Now Ponyboy and Johnny are on the run for the police.They hide in an old church and after 5 days a friend (Dally) comes to tell them that the coast is clear and they can come home. But a few minutes after they left the church it goes on fire and a group of children is in there. Ponyboy and Johnny go inside and manage to get the children out. But they faint both and Dally has to go in and save them. Now Ponyboy and Johnny are heroes but Johnny is so badly injured from the fire so he doesn’t survive it. Ponyboy talks with the teacher of the children who where in that church and explains the whole story. The teacher writes an article in the newspaper in which he explains the murder. Ponyboy is lucky and he doesn’t have to go to jail. There comes a big fight between the Greasers and the Socs because they want revanche. The Greasers win. Ponyboy makes peace with the socs and they don’t fight with eachother anymore.
4. What’s the climax of the story: The climax in this story is when Ponyboy and Johnny kill the Soc. After that everything changes . Ponyboy and Johnny are searched by the police now.The Socs change their way of fighting and they want revange. One of them(Randy) doesn’t want to fight and he makes peace with ponyboy at the end. 5. What is the meaning of the title: The Title: The Outsiders is about the Greasers. They are the outsiders who are the enemy’s of the Socs. The Socs are the normal Americans, just like every American shoult be but the Greasers are poor. They are the outsiders of the civilisation 6. Who are the main Characters: There are more characters who are importan. The main character is Ponyboy Curtis who is the one who tells the whole story. Than there is Johnny who has a small role in the beginning but becomes more important at the end. The two brothers , Sodapop & Darry are allso very important for the main character. Dally plays a important role when the boys are our of town. All these characters are flat characters, they don’t change in the story ore surpise you. There is one boy who does changes. That’s Ponyboy Curtis. In the beginning he is a little boy , the little brother of Darry. But at the end he is allmost the leader of the Greasers, a hero , not just a little boy. 7. What is the theme of the novel: It’s all about the fight between two groups who don’t accept eachother. So it’s important for them to accept eachother the way they are and to stop fighting against eachother
So the statement which is set in the novel is something like : You have to accept eachother the way you are, if you’re poor or rich , accept eachother the way you are. 8. A: What is the setting of the book The story takes place in America, in a city near the little place Windrixville. I don’t know if that place really exists ore not. The type of people are very different. On one side we have The Greasers who belong to the lowerclass and at the other side we have the Socials who belong to the upperclass. The Socials are rich and they have nice cars and there parents have good jobs
The Greasers are poor and some of them have got more than one job to get enough to buy food. A few of them are christians and want to go to church (like ponyboy) but the others don’t like church. The Story takes place a time ago , in the time of Elvis Presly and the Beatles
9. Personal Experience: - The moment when Johnny kills the Soc because he is so afraid I can really remember very well . Because the boy had to be so scared at that moment to be able to do such horrible things, that really shocked me. - I Think Ponyboy is a bit like my father because he is so brave to save those
children from burning. I think my father would also do that - The moment Ponyboy runs away from home reminds me of one time when I was a
little boy. I was so angry that I run away from home but I didn’t came futher than my neighbours because they brought me back home. 10. Opinion about this novel: I think this was a really nice book to read because it tells a stoy between two groups which could really happen. It allso describes every situation very good so you can understand very well what the main character feels. But this book was allso very hard to read because it was written down just the was you say it and that is very hard to read.
