Summary of the book

Sleepy Hollow was a strange and mysterious place. People there believed in ghosts and spirits. There was a story about a ghost of a soldier. He was killed in the war between Britain and the American colony. He lost his head in this battle. Every night he rides back to the battlefield to look for his head. People called him the Headless Horseman. Some people said they saw him. He rode a huge black horse, as fast as the wind and was always seen late at night.

Ichabod Crane was a teacher in Sleepy Hollow. He was thin and ugly. A new pupil came in his class. Her name was Katrina van Tassel, she was young, very pretty and lived on a big farm. All the young men and Ichabod admired Katrina. Ichabod wants to marry her and he’ll get her father’s farm. Brom Bones wanted to marry her too. He was young and handsome. When Katrina’s father gave a party, Brom told about the Headless Horseman. Ichabod saw that Brom was talking to Katrina and was very jealous about this. He quickly left the party. In the forest he heard a strange noise. He saw a black shape and it had and it had begun to follow him. It was the Headless Horseman and he carried his head in his hand! On the bridge near the church he stopped. He threw his head to Ichabod. Ichabod fell of his horse. Next morning the people found Ichabod’s horse and pumpkin near the church. Nobody saw Ichabod again. Nobody knows what had happened to Ichabod, maybe Brom Bones knows. Did he know a secret about Ichabod, the Headless Horseman and the pumpkin?
Perhaps he did!
Opinion

- I like the book, because it was very exciting and mysterious. The pursuit was exciting and the Headless Horseman was very mysterious. Even now I don’t know much about him!

- Have you learned a lesson? Yes, don’t be jealous because when you‘re jealous you do unusual things. And you learned a legend about the ghost of the soldier.

- Most exciting part: the part with the pursuit (when the Horseman followed Ichabod)

- I recommend this book for other people who like ghost
stories and legends.
