Who?

Jane Lindsay, she’s the headperson in the story. Her father died when she was young.
The first time when she heard about the house of a thousand lanterns she was curious about that place. One day she will become the owner of that house, but she doesn’t know that in the beginning ofcourse.
Jason, he’s the child of Jane and Joliffe, but he’s raised by Jane and Sylvester Milner.
Joliffe, he’s the father of Jason, the lover of Jane and the cousin of Sylvester.
The relationship between him and Sylvester is not good. The relationship between him and Jane has some struggles.
The first time he met Jason his son was when Jason was about 6 years old.
Sylvester, he and Jane met when Jane came to work for him. Her mother works for him too, that’s how she got the job.
Later he raises his “son” with Jane. He always wanted a son.
Adam, he’s Sylvesters cousin. The relationship between them isn’t very good.
Adam falls in love with Jane. But Jane chooses for Joliffe after all.

What?

The story is about Jane Lindsay. Her father died when she was young. Her mother works for mister Sylvester Milner. During holidays she stayed at the house of Syllvester Milner. Later he offers her a job.
When she works there she knows that Sylvetser has a treasureroom. She is very curious and goes in the room. The door locked when she was in it. She got caught by Sylvetser himself. Later he learns her about Chinese art.
When she met Joliffe she thought he was an atractive man. He’s the father of her child that she gets later. She marries him, but the real wife of Joliffe came in the picture again. Joliffe thought she was killed in an accident, but that wasn’t the truth. She runs away when she was pregnant of his child.
She marries Sylvester Milner, because otherwise she had to be a single mother and that’s a shame in China.
While she was pregnant her mother dies of a serious illness where Jane didn’t know about.
Later Sylvester dies too. Jane earns the house of a thousand lanterns. He dies because of that the neighbour who wants the house of a thousand lanterns gave him a potion. The potion didn’t work by Jane. She wanted Jane to kill herself, so she could own the house. That was possible beacause the other cousin of Sylvester was the father of her child. But Joliffe came into the house and saved Jason and Jane. The neighbour kills herself and Joliffe, Jane and Jason went back to England and lived happier ever after.

Why?

Janes mother had to work with Sylvester Milner, because Janes father died and she had to take care of her.
Jane works for Sylvester after she finished her school. Later she became his wife, because he always wanted to be a father and she needed him, because it’s a shame to be a single mother in China.
She runs away from Joliffe, because he already got a wife. Later they got together again, beacuse his wife (Bella) died and he saved her and Jason.

When?

The story took place somewhere in the 19th century.

Own opinion:

My opinion of the book is that I really liked it. When I was reading it I didn’t want to stop reading. I really could understand the storyline and the words easily.
The story was sometimes a bit boring, but most of the time it was exciting.
