The BFG door Roald Dahl
Shadow
A) The story was about a giant, the BFG, and a little girl called Sophie. The giant was a dream blower. Every night when the nine other giants were galloping, the BFG blew dreams through windows, in the watching hour. Sophie saw him do that, so he had to take her with him. Because if she would tell someone, nobody would ever believe it. Sophie thought the BFG was going to eat her, but apparently, he wasn’t. But he had to be careful with the little girl, because if the other giants would see her, they would eat her. The BFG was the only one who doesn’t eats humans. Sophie wants to stop the horrible monsters, so she made up a plan. As I already told, the BFG was a dreamblower. So he got a few dreams from his collection, and mixed them together. The two blew the dream/nightmare into the Queens room. She would dream the awful things that were happening every day. People disappear in a mysterious way. It was also in the newspaper the morning after, so the Queen had to believe it was true. The Queen, Sophie and the BFG made up a whole new plan, how they could stop those big hairy awful giants. The Air Force came with some jeeps, and nine helicopters to the secret land of the giants. 1 Helicopter for each giant. They tied them up with ropes, and flew them to a very big hole as big as two soccer-fields. Even if the nine monsters would stand on each-other, the one on top wouldn’t even get out of it. The BFG had a perfect idea of what to feed them. Snozzcumbers! He always had to eat them himself, but they were so disgusting! The whole world was very grateful to little Sophie and her giant friend. Everyone sent gifts, food, elephants, everything. The Queen had built a big house with very high ceilings for the BFG, and a tiny little house for Sophie. She also let the BFG go to school, because he has never been before, that’s why he talks a bit weird. He was a perfect student, and he began to write a book. The book he wrote, was the book I read, “The BFG”. B) The BFG is the main-character of the book, the Big Friendly Giant.
C) “I has great secrets to tell Your Majester,” the BFG said. “I should be delighted to hear them,” the Queen said. “But not in my dressing-gown.” “Shall you wish to get dressed, ma’am?” the maid said. “Have either of you had breakfast?” the Queen said. “Oh, could we?” Sophie cried. “Oh please! I haven’t eaten a thing since yesterday!” “I was about to have mine, the Queen said, “but Mary dropped it.” The maid gulped. “I imagine we have more food in the Palace,” the Queen said, speaking to the BFG. “Perhaps you and your little friend would care to join me.” I liked this part because the Queen was very nice to Sophie & the BFG. Even while they broke in to her Palace. That was very surprising to me. “Push the grand piano into the centre of the room,” Mr Tibbs whispered. Butlers never raise their voices above the softest whisper. Four footmen moved the piano. “Now fetch a large chest-of-drawers and put it on top of the piano,” Mr Tibbs whispered. Three other footmen fetched a very fine Chippendale mahogany chest-of-drawers and placed it on top of the piano. “That will be his chair,” Mr Tibbs whispered. “It is exactly eight feet off the ground. Now we shall make a table upon which this gentleman may eat his breakfast in comfort. Fetch me four very tall grandfather clocks. There are plenty of them around the Palace. Let each clock be twelve feet high.” I wrote this part down, because I find it weird that somebody acts so calm and like everything’s normal, but there’s a giant coming over for breakfast! “I is guzzling you nice and slow!” the Fleshlumpeater was saying to the soldier in his hand. “Then I is guzzling ten or twenty more of you midgy little maggots down there! You is not getting away from me ever because I is galloping fifty times faster than you!” Sophie ran up behind the Fleshlumpeater. She was holding the brooch between her fingers. When she was right up close to the great naked hairy legs, she rammed the three-inch long pin of the brooch as hard as she could into the Felshlumpeater’s right ankle. It went deep into the flesh and stayed there. I liked this part, because I think what Sophie did was very brave! You got to have courage to do that. D) Actually it’s not really a book where you can learn from, only that giants don’t exist. But it’s just a book for fun. The story takes place in the UK. Most of all in a part of Great Britain that no-one knows, except the giants. When the Air Force, the BFG and Sophie are going to catch the horrible giants, you’ll get noticed of that. The men of the Air Force are looking on the map of Great Britain, but the Atlas has already been finished, but they’re flying further. The whole story isn’t very realistic. All the things that happen, like dream catching and stuff. And even some characters, like the giants. They don’t exist, but it actually doesn’t matter, because it was a nice book. E) “Because of this book ……….” - I wonder: How the writer came to this story, how he made it up. Almost nothing’s real, so that’s rather funny. - I decide: To reed more books from Roald Dahl. I don’t read very often, most of all just when I have to. For school and stuff. But this book was quite nice. - I realise: That not only children have a lot of imagination, even grown ups can have that. F) I really loved to read this book. Usually I don’t like to read, but I liked this one. The story is totally made up, I like that. Sometimes I read books that are realistic, that can be nice to. But I love imaginations of people. Some people are boring and don’t fantasise. But I do, a lot actually. I really love that. So I think that’s the reason I liked “The BFG”.
